The Soomans constituted a sentient species of red insectoid beings. Their origin was the planet Sooma, situated within the Outer Rim Territories.
Their leader was King Zornog. General Sludd attempted to seize power on the nearby world of Alzar, and as part of that scheme, he manipulated the Alzarian Prince Plooz to flee to Sooma aboard a transport ship. C-3PO and R2-D2 ultimately rescued Plooz.
A significant number of Soomans perished during the Stenax Massacres, which occurred ten months following the Battle of Endor in 4 ABY. This event involved the Stenax utilizing pilfered Imperial technology for their invasion.
