Star Comics, a division of Marvel Comics, began its comic book publishing journey in 1984 and remained active until the mid-1990s. The comics released under this imprint were specifically designed for a younger audience, frequently featuring adaptations of popular animated TV shows for kids. Among the titles released were Peter Porker, The Spectacular Spider-Ham; ThunderCats; and The Get-Along Gang. For a short time, Star also put out a comic based on John Candy's cartoon show, Camp Candy, featuring the comedian himself.
In addition, Star Comics released two Star Wars spin-off series that did not last long: Droids and Ewoks. These series were derived from the animated shows that shared their names. Also, a single edition of Muppet Babies presented a Star Wars spoof. The Star Comics Magazine, a digest-sized publication, re-released tales from various series, with some issues including Ewoks stories.
