Emissaries to Malastare, Part 1 represents the thirteenth installment within the Star Wars: Republic comic book saga. Dark Horse Comics released it to the public on December 22 of 1999.
When a dispute arises somewhere within the galaxy, Jedi Knights are deployed to act as negotiators, champion justice, and protect the defenseless. However, should the potential dispute threaten to escalate into a widespread galactic conflict, the Jedi Masters themselves are required to be present. Regrettably, a complex deception of immense proportions awaits Ki-Adi-Mundi, his recently appointed apprentice A'Sharad Hett, along with the other members of the Jedi Council amidst the high-velocity Podracing circuits of Malastare!
The storyline commences with A'sharad Hett undergoing training under the guidance of the Dark Woman. Soon after this, Ki-Adi-Mundi is summoned to a gathering of the Jedi Council. The focal point: insurgents situated on the planet Lannik are now prepared to engage in peace talks. These discussions are scheduled to transpire on Malastare, located within the Mid Rim. Six Council members are selected to serve as mediators: Ki-Adi-Mundi, Even Piell, Plo Koon, Adi Gallia, Yaddle, and Mace Windu. While Mace Windu and Eeth Koth finalize the Concordance of Fealty, Ki-Adi-Mundi discovers his Padawan conversing with a young Anakin Skywalker.
