Star Wars (book-and-record)

Star Wars, a book accompanied by a record or tape, was an adaptation of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. It was released in 1979 as a part of Buena Vista Records' Read-Along Adventures series. Jymn Magon produced it, and it stands as one of the limited number of works authorized by Black Falcon Ltd., a short-lived division of Lucasfilm. The narrator of the record remains unidentified, as no credits were given in the book or on the record.

Legacy

1984 collection

The cassette version was re-issued as part of a collection that included adaptations of the other two original films in 1984.

1994 Re-release

The 1994 Classic Star Wars: A New Hope book-and-tape utilized the exact same audio and text, but featured updated packaging and different photographs inside.

A New Hope Read-Along

Walt Disney Records put out a new book-and-tape adaptation in 1997 which incorporated content taken from the Special Edition version of A New Hope.

Danish edition - Stjernekrigen

  • In the original 1982 release's booklet, the name "Luke Skywalker" is rendered as "Luke Skyganger," literally translating to "Luke Cloudstrider."
  • "Darth Vader" is consistently pronounced incorrectly as "Dart Wader."
  • The pronunciation of "Obi-Wan Kenobi" is repeatedly incorrect, rendered as "Obi-Van Kanobi."
  • "Leia" is mispronounced once as "Laya."
  • The tape begins with the phrase "For lang tid siden i en fjern, fjern stjernetåge," which translates to "A long time ago in a nebula far, far away."
  • The " Galactic Empire " is translated as "Galaksens Rige," meaning "The Kingdom of the Galaxy."
  • In this rendition, the tractor beam doesn't pull the Falcon into the Death Star; instead, it sucks it in, despite the translation of "tractor beam" being "trækstråle," which means "pull-beam."
  • The tape incorrectly states that Luke assumed leadership of the Rebellion.
  • X-wings are referred to as "W-winger."
