Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones (soundtrack)

The soundtrack for Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones, crafted by John Williams who served as both composer and conductor, and performed by the London Voices alongside the London Symphony Orchestra, was made available through Sony Classical on April 23, 2002.

At the time of release, there were four distinct soundtrack covers offered for sale individually, showcasing Yoda, Anakin and Padmé, Jango Fett, and the film's official poster art.

A special edition CD, exclusive to WAL-MART for a limited duration, included enhanced multimedia CD-ROM content, accessible on computers, featuring a link to a unique PC screensaver. Target's exclusive version contained an extra track titled "On The Conveyor Belt," while Best Buy editions featured a limited-edition Episode II Trading Card.

On May 4, 2018, Walt Disney Records issued a remastered version of the soundtrack, supervised by Shawn Murphy and Skywalker Sound, which was transferred to a new hi-resolution format (24/192). This remastered edition was created using the highest-quality tapes available, rather than the original 2002 album masters.

Due to editing choices within the film, various sound effects were employed to smooth transitions between edited musical cues. For instance, a chime sound is used in several instances, such as transitioning from the Obi-Wan scenes on Kamino to the Anakin/Padmé scenes on Naboo. The Arena sequence, as another example, is almost completely tracked out and instead is replaced with "source" crowd sounds such as drums.

Once the Battle of Geonosis commences, the editing becomes more extensive, incorporating music from both The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones, utilizing a variety of editing techniques and supplementing transitions with timpani rolls. This approach was jointly conceived by John Williams and George Lucas.

Track listing

In the US release, early prints of the album listed track 2 simply as "Love Theme from Attack of the Clones" on the back cover and insert. Later releases changed the track's name to "Across the Stars (Love Theme from Attack of the Clones)". This renaming did not occur in international versions.

The Target-exclusive bonus track, "On the Conveyor Belt", is absent from the 2018 release by Walt Disney Records.

Score information

Information about the score itself is scarce. The decision was made against releasing a more comprehensive version of the score, partly due to the lackluster reception of the two-disc Phantom Menace Ultimate Edition.

The CD track "Zam The Assassin And The Chase Through Coruscant" marks the sole instance of an electric guitar appearing in a Star Wars film soundtrack. However, the director was not fond of the guitar's inclusion and opted to exclude it from the film itself.
