Plot summary

The Star Destroyer known as the Decimator is traveling through hyperspace, headed towards Vactooine. 12-4C-41 now commands the ship, which is under the control of 12-4C-41's Droid Army. He expresses regret over their recent defeat on Tatooine. Despite this setback, he remains determined to establish his foundries on Vactooine and then return to seek revenge on EV-9D9. Concurrently, at Jabba's Palace, the biker named Twitch delivers a damaged K4 security droid to 9D9, who initiates an interrogation.

On Dennogra, IG-88B is actively pursuing Han Solo, who had recently been on the planet conducting business with the Ithorian treasure dealer Sprool. Upon entering the Zio Snaffkin Cantina, 88 discovers that the establishment has been utterly destroyed, with all its patrons dead. The only survivor is Boba Fett, a notorious bounty hunter and a rival of 88. Shortly thereafter, Dengar and Bossk arrive on Dennogra, only to be greeted by a message droid dispatched by Jabba the Hutt, who instructs them to hunt down Wuntoo's droid army. The bounty hunters hastily rush to their respective ships, initiating a dogfight. However, only one manages to escape and make their way to the Vactooine system. There, the successful hunter encounters the Decimator, which is concealed behind the largest moon of Vactooine. Wuntoo, aboard the Decimator, deploys TIE/sa bombers to intercept the hunter, but they are swiftly defeated.

While searching for its lost bombers, the Decimator uses a tractor beam to capture the bounty hunter's ship, pulling it into the landing bay. A K4 security droid boards the captured vessel, but the hunter quickly eliminates it. The hunter then launches the ship's escape pod across the hangar floor to gain a tactical advantage. Despite these efforts, the hunter is eventually captured and imprisoned within one of the Decimator's holding cells. Refusing to surrender, the hunter overpowers their guards before interrogating K-2PQ. After discovering that the droids are rogue elements targeting 9D9 rather than Jabba, the hunter destroys 2PQ and escapes the ship. As they depart, they reprogram the drone barge to head towards Tatooine. Upon returning to Tatooine, the hunter is ambushed by Zuckuss and 4-LOM, but manages to defeat them. Impressed by the hunter's skills, Jabba pays the agreed-upon fee.

Meanwhile, on Vactooine, Wuntoo's forces have taken control of the mining colony. On Yavin 4, Luke Skywalker becomes suspicious when Vactooine is late with a scheduled shipment and requests authorization to investigate the situation.

Continuity

In this book, Zuckuss is erroneously identified as a "Gann".
