Star Wars Trilogy Arcade

Star Wars Trilogy Arcade represents an arcade experience brought to you through a collaboration between Sega and LucasArts. The game's narrative is deeply rooted in the Original trilogy cinematic universe, drawing inspiration from Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back, and Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi.

Levels

The game is structured around four key stages:

Players gain immediate access to the initial trio of levels, offering the freedom to tackle them in any sequence they prefer. Upon successfully completing all three, the concluding level becomes available.

The Battle of Yavin showcases the assault on the first Death Star. In the level's initial segment, players pilot an X Wing and confront successive waves of TIE Fighters. After eliminating all enemy fighters, the player navigates across the Death Star's surface, tasked with destroying both Turbolaser Towers and TIE Fighters. Subsequently, Darth Vader, piloting his TIE Advanced x1, enters the fray. Upon his defeat, the player embarks on the iconic trench run. Darth Vader reappears here, and diverging from established canon, his wingmen can be destroyed using proton torpedoes. The Battle of Hoth incorporates segments featuring both snowspeeders and the evacuation from Echo Base. The primary targets for the snowspeeders are the AT-STs, but when Attack Pattern Delta is initiated, the snowspeeders attack the necks of AT-AT's and can even decapitate them. After inflicting damage upon the attacking Imperial forces, the snowspeeder touches down, and the player proceeds on foot through Echo Base in search of the Millennium Falcon. Notably, this segment of the level incorporates elements inspired by deleted scenes (from The Empire Strikes Back) depicting captive Wampas within Echo Base.

The Battle of Endor's ground component begins with the Speederbike chase, where the player must prevent the Imperials from alerting their superiors about the Rebel landing. After neutralizing all Scout troopers, the Rebels advance to assault the bunker. Periodically, Ewoks can be summoned to leap onto the heads of attacking stormtroopers. Upon reaching the bunker, the player confronts an AT-ST, which must be destroyed using only a blaster rifle.

The concluding battle unfolds during the Battle of Endor in space, where the player pilots an X-Wing against the might of the Imperial Fleet. The battle takes place over the second Death Star's surface (which features enhanced anti-fighter defenses) and culminates within the Main Reactor. This battle requires strafing runs against occasional Star Destroyer and a duel against a Lambda Shuttle. Destroying the Main Reactor necessitates firing five volleys of proton torpedoes, which deviates from canon as the X-Wing at this point in the story only has a rack of six. Following the Death Star's destruction, a montage showcasing the game's levels is presented, along with the final score and rank.

After completing two of the initial three levels, the player engages in a one-on-one duel with Boba Fett as Luke Skywalker during the battle on Jabba's sail barge. The player must use a Lightsaber to deflect Boba Fett's blaster fire, occasionally redirecting a shot back at the bounty hunter. Successfully deflecting every possible shot results in Fett being cast into the Sarlacc pit, earning a bonus.

Upon finishing all three initial levels, the player once again assumes the role of Luke Skywalker, this time battling Darth Vader aboard the Death Star. The lightsaber is used to parry Vader's attacks, and when Vader loses his balance, the player can counterattack by executing a combination move as prompted on the screen. Completing all combination moves leads to Darth Vader's fall, with Skywalker's lightsaber pointed at Vader. Deactivating the lightsaber at this juncture triggers the Emperor's utterance, "so be it, Jedi", while leaving the lightsaber activated results in no consequence.

Throughout the game, the player embodies Luke Skywalker during the Yavin and bonus levels, an anonymous Rebel soldier during Hoth and Endor, and Wedge Antilles during the Endor space battle.
