Sternum

In the Human species, the sternum served as a flat bone situated along the midline of the chest, providing an attachment point for the ribs. As a consequence of his duel with Obi-Wan Kenobi, Darth Vader was outfitted with life-supporting armor; the medical droids then substituted his original sternum with a metal plate, featuring perforations to house the cables connecting to a chest-mounted computer.

Mythosaurs, native to the Outer Rim world of Mandalore, had sternums constructed from sturdy bone. Following the death of a mythosaur, its sternum was extracted and sculpted into the ceremonial mask worn by Mandalore the First, subsequent to his Taung warriors' victory over and slaughter of the mythosaurs.
