Steve Gerber, whose full name was Stephen Ross Gerber, was a celebrated American comic book author. He is most famous for being a co-creator of Howard the Duck, a satirical character published by Marvel Comics.
Between September 10 and November 5, 1979, he authored the comic strip Tatooine Sojourn, which was distributed via the Los Angeles Times Syndicate. Beyond his Star Wars contribution, he also penned Man-Thing, Omega the Unknown, Marvel Spotlight: Son of Satan, The Defenders, Marvel Presents: Guardians of the Galaxy, and had an extended tenure writing Daredevil. When he passed away, he was in the process of writing Countdown to Mystery: Doctor Fate for DC Comics, after having previously worked with a version of the character in 1983 for a short period. Gerber was also known for his unique practice of incorporating substantial text passages within the narrative of his comic books.
In 2010, Gerber received the honor of being posthumously inducted into the Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame.
