Sullustan Resistance

The Sullustan Resistance represents a period of insurgency undertaken by the Sullustan people of Sullust against the occupying forces of the Galactic Empire. This conflict spanned from approximately 2 BBY to 4 ABY.

History

The spark of the conflict ignited in 2 BBY (Sullustan Year 8,494), when Siin Suub, at the time the Chairman of the powerful SoroSuub Corporation, seized control of Sullust through illicit means. He declared that Sullust was now aligned with the Empire, due to SoroSuub's strong support for it. This decision was met with outrage from many Sullustans, who had historically maintained a strong allegiance to SoroSuub.

These disgruntled Sullustans rallied behind the leadership of politician Sian Tevv, who, despite not joining the Rebel Alliance, skillfully guided the burgeoning Sullustan Resistance against the Empire. The Resistance launched various attacks targeting SoroSuub's assets, posing such a significant threat that SoroSuub was compelled to establish the Sullustan Home Guard to defend against the growing insurgency.

However, the Home Guard's composition, consisting solely of Sullustan natives, many of whom opposed SoroSuub's pro-Imperial stance, rendered it largely ineffective in suppressing the Resistance. This factor, combined with the bravery and dedication exhibited by Resistance fighters such as Nien Nunb, transformed the movement into a major concern for SoroSuub.

On at least one occasion, SoroSuub was compelled to request Imperial reinforcements in response to a Resistance attack. The timely arrival of an Imperial-class destroyer dramatically altered the course of the battle, transforming what appeared to be a certain Resistance victory into a resounding defeat, during which Nunb lost his ship.

During this period, a substantial number of individual anti-Imperial Sullustans began actively joining the Rebel Alliance rather than the Sullustan Resistance. This included notable defections, such as that of Nunb. Despite this trend, Tevv remained steadfast in his decision, choosing not to align the Sullustan Resistance with the Alliance at that time, likely due to concerns about potential Imperial reprisals.

Shortly before 0 BBY, Tevv's Resistance movement had amassed sufficient strength to seize control of Sullust. Recognizing the futility of continuing to combat the Resistance's piracy and sabotage, SoroSuub ultimately shifted its allegiance to the Rebellion. However, Sullust itself remained independent for a short period longer.

As part of Operation Strike Fear, the Empire initiated plans for a potential invasion of Sullust. They apprehended Sullustan technical personnel and leaders, intending to transport them to Coruscant for interrogation, torture, and forced servitude. In an effort to persuade the Sullustans to join the Alliance, the Rebels launched a daring rescue operation.

Following the successful rescue, Sullust agreed to engage in negotiations with the Alliance. A diplomatic meeting held near Sullust was disrupted by the arrival of the Imperial-class Star Destroyer Invincible. Rebel pilots Hamo Blastwell and Keyan Farlander, piloting R-22 Spearheads, successfully fended off Imperial fighters, allowing the meeting to conclude and all ships to escape into hyperspace. However, the Invincible's attack proved to be a mere diversion. While the meeting was underway, stormtroopers kidnapped the Sullustan leader Sian Tevv. Farlander and Blastwell were once again called into action, tasked with disabling the shuttle carrying him to the Invincible and repelling Imperial fighters until a Rebel shuttle could execute a boarding operation and escape into hyperspace.

In light of the Rebel's recent assistance, Sullust consented to become an ally of the Rebel Alliance, although not a full member. Subsequently, the rescued Sullustan technical staff collaborated with General Crix Madine to formulate a plan to neutralize Operation Strike Fear by destroying the Invincible. The Rebels captured engineers from Cygnus Corp and coerced them into modifying a shuttle to resemble an Imperial vessel. Disguised as suppliers delivering cargo, Rebel agents boarded the Invincible and planted a stolen Imperial warhead. The warhead detonated shortly after their departure, resulting in the destruction of the Invincible.

Later, Tevv authorized the Rebel fleet to convene at Sullust, the endpoint of the Sanctuary Pipeline, to strategize the destruction of the Death Star II.

Following the Battle of Endor in 4 ABY, Tevv finally acceded to joining the Alliance, bringing with him a significant contingent of Sullustan rebels and becoming a signatory of the Declaration of a New Republic. The Sullustans became active participants in the New Republic, rendering the Sullustan resistance movement obsolete.
