Sunchoo

During the Clone Wars, a female Wookiee named Sunchoo resided on Kashyyyk. Crovan Dane, a bounty hunter, abducted her from her village, selling her into slavery. She then became the property of Gama Bankor, a Neimoidian official in the Trade Federation. In 21 BBY, as the Neimoidian was preparing to transport her off the planet, Bant Eerin's Padawan and Jaylen Kos, a Jedi youngling, intervened and freed her. Following her liberation, she assisted them in their pursuit of Dane.

Biography

Kashyyyk, where Sunchoo was kidnapped and sold into a life of slavery

Living on the jungle planet of Kashyyyk, located in the Mid Rim, was Sunchoo, a female Wookiee who was born around 64 BBY. Her life spanned the time before and during the Clone Wars, a widespread galaxy conflict that pitted the Galactic Republic against the Confederacy of Independent Systems.

Crovan Dane, a bounty hunter, at one point abducted Sunchoo from her village. Ultimately, she was sold into slavery to Gama Bankor, a Neimoidian diplomat affiliated with the Trade Federation. By 21 BBY, Bankor already possessed her, and his IG-100 MagnaGuards attempted to force Sunchoo aboard his starship.

While Sunchoo was being forcibly taken away, Jedi Master Bant Eerin's Padawan and his youngling friend Jaylen Kos were also present at the spaceport of Kashyyyk Royal City. Upon noticing the captive Wookiee, they challenged Bankor regarding his prisoner, leading him to reluctantly release Sunchoo. In return for saving her, Sunchoo assisted the young Jedi duo in their quest to locate Crovan Dane, fulfilling the life debt she now owed them.

Personality and traits

Those who were older than Sunchoo considered her to be mature for her youth. She was brave, even roaring at one of Gama Bankor's IG-100 MagnaGuards, despite the risk of being attacked. She was also prepared to surrender to bounty hunters if it would help to free other Wookiees from captivity. Sunchoo adhered to Wookiee traditions, ensuring that her life debt to the Padawan and his friend was adequately repaid, regardless of the dangers involved in their mission. Furthermore, she possessed extensive knowledge of Kashyyyk's forests and could navigate them with ease.

Behind the scenes

Sunchoo has only been seen in The Clone Wars: Decide Your Destiny: The Way of the Jedi, a Decide Your Destiny novel written in 2008 by Jake Forbes and Sue Behrent. Given the nature of Decide Your Destiny books, Sunchoo appears in multiple storylines, and the reader determines her actions within these narratives. This article focuses on the storyline where she plays the largest role, with any other possibilities noted.

Alternative outcomes

The Shadowlands, where Sunchoo visits in one of several possible story strands

While Gama Bankor is taking Sunchoo away from Kashyyyk, Bant Eerin's Padawan and Jaylen Kos are searching for Crovan Dane and encounter a Toydarian who possesses information about the elusive bounty hunter. At the same time, they spot Sunchoo being taken away by Bankor. The Jedi pair must then choose between confronting Bankor about Sunchoo or staying with the Toydarian, who threatens to leave if they don't pay him immediately for his information. If they decide to ignore Sunchoo and pay the Toydarian, he leads them to a cantina to meet a bounty hunter who is also looking for Dane. If they choose to confront Bankor, he eventually releases Sunchoo reluctantly. Grateful for her rescue, she joins them on their mission.

Together, the trio journeys to Kashyyyk's Shadowlands, where Crovan Dane and his Wookiee partner, Tahnchukka, are loading various species—including a terentatek and a Wookiee family—onto a ship for transport to the Trandoshan moon Akoshissss on behalf of Muun cyberneticist Bitt Panith. However, Tahnchukka detects Sunchoo's presence and begins searching for her. Realizing this, Sunchoo offers to turn herself in to Tahnchukka, giving the Jedi time to free the captives and arrest Dane. The reader must then decide whether to remain hidden and allow Sunchoo to create a diversion, or to directly confront Dane and Tahnchukka. If the reader chooses not to let Sunchoo surrender, the Jedi will be discovered. The two Jedi attempt to disarm the bounty hunter duo using the Force, but the terentatek's ability to repel the Force causes this attempt to fail. Unwilling to fight the bounty hunters without the Force, the Jedi flee, but Dane stuns them. Sunchoo and the two Jedi later find themselves in an arena, facing execution.

If the reader chooses to listen to Sunchoo and allow her to surrender, Dane and Tahnchukka will take her to their ship, giving the youngling and the Padawan time to release the captives. However, the bounty hunters return and begin firing upon the two Jedi, and Dane is devoured whole by the freed terentatek. While Tahnchukka tries to kill the dangerous animal, the Jedi board Dane's ship and release Sunchoo along with the other Wookiee prisoners. Sunchoo and the Wookiee family then escort the Jedi back to their village, where both Jedi and Wookiees celebrate their success. After the celebration, the two Jedi depart Kashyyyk, but Sunchoo promises to assist them whenever they need help. Considering her life debt repaid, Bant Eerin's Padawan intends to return to Kashyyyk after the Clone Wars to introduce Sunchoo to his friend and fellow Padawan, Ahsoka Tano.
