The superlaser siege cannon represented a scaled-down version of Death Star technology. Powered by kyber crystals, it unleashed a powerful energy burst along a targeting tracer beam, resulting in a massive explosion upon impact. These two-hundred-meter cannons necessitated support vehicles for battlefield positioning; they were transported by air and then dragged into place using ultra-strong cables connected to All Terrain Heavy Haulers. Once in position, the cannon used retractable outriggers to stabilize its large frame and featured defensive turrets on top for protection during the charging process.
During his time serving the First Order, FN-2187 possessed knowledge of superlaser siege cannons and their destructive capabilities. The First Order deployed such a cannon during the Battle of Crait, using it to create an opening in the blast door of the Crait outpost where Resistance members sought refuge. The Resistance deployed "Reb" Squadron, flying antiquated V-4X-D ski speeders, in a desperate attempt to disable the weapon. As time dwindled, FN-2187—who had defected from the First Order, adopting the name "Finn" and joining the Resistance—attempted a suicide attack aimed at the cannon's firing chamber. However, Rose Tico intervened at the last second, preventing him from doing so. The cannon was then fired without interruption, successfully breaching the Resistance's defenses and ultimately paving the way for Kylo Ren to lead an assault on the outpost.
