Tarron Neb was a member of a species whose origins were on Yavin 8, a moon that is mountainous and resides in the Yavin system. This species hailed from this location. Emperor Palpatine of the Galactic Empire grew to despise the inhabitants of Yavin 8, and consequently ordered their annihilation. This order was carried out, leading to the near extinction of the species; however, Neb managed to survive the purge, becoming the only remaining member. Neb was equipped with a sword for combat and wore a type of armor.
The character of Tarron Neb was the creation of Stephen Baker, a Star Wars enthusiast who, at the age of 16, participated in the "Design An Alien" contest featured in Star Wars Galaxy's magazine. This competition began in the third issue in the year 1995. The winning submissions were revealed in the seventh issue in 1996, with Baker's entry receiving an "honorable mention" in the "under 16" category. Although published as "Tarron," Baker's original artwork spelled the name "Torron." Leland Chee, the Star Wars continuity editor, later confirmed that material from the "Design an Alien" competition that was successfully published was considered canon.
