Teebo's fish friend

Teebo's aquatic companion, a sentient and articulate fish, was indigenous to the Forest Moon of Endor. This fish established its residence in a lake situated on the forest moon sometime either before or during the Rebellion era. He once encountered King Elbo, perhaps even journeying to the king's underwater dwelling, the Coral Castle. He then relayed this information to three Ewoks: Wicket, Teebo, and Kneesaa, after their friend Latara was abducted by the king.

To facilitate their underwater travel, the fish produced a water bubble for the three Ewoks, since Ewoks require air to venture to the ocean floor. Initially, the Ewoks exhibited reluctance, expressing dissatisfaction with the bubble's basic nature. However, they eventually embraced it and utilized it to reach the Coral Castle. Subsequently, following negotiations with Elbo, they successfully rescued Latara.

Biography

Within the Lake

Teebo's fish friend made his home in an Endor lake around 3 ABY. The Ewoks generally regarded the fish as unusually diminutive. At some point before encountering the three Ewoks, the talking fish had at least one interaction with the self-proclaimed king of the sea, Elbo. During this meeting, the fish witnessed Elbo administering one of his trials concerning greed, and later, the fish observed Elbo's residence, the Coral Castle.

Furthermore, sometime before his encounter with the Ewoks, the fish acquired the ability to create a sea bubble, a spherical, air-filled enclosure large enough to accommodate three Ewoks. The fish could generate the bubble by filling himself with air and subsequently expelling it into the water. Whether he had employed this mode of transportation before creating it for the Ewoks remains unknown.

Assisting the Ewoks

Teebo's fish friend deflates as he creates a sea bubble.

In 3 ABY, Kneesaa, an Ewok princess, inadvertently dropped her ankle bracelet into the lake. Elbo materialized and presented her with three bracelets: her own and two others. After accurately identifying her bracelet and resisting the temptation to falsely claim the more appealing ones, she received all three. Subsequently, Latara, another Ewok, learned of this account and resolved to test it. She intentionally dropped her flute into the lake and lied to Elbo. Elbo abducted Latara just as Wicket, Teebo, and Kneesaa arrived.

They attempted to devise a solution promptly, but it was Teebo who took action. Having heard tales of aquatic monsters in the lake, Teebo allowed himself to float and emit sounds into the water. Responding to his summons, the fish friend emerged and greeted the Ewoks. The Ewoks described their predicament to the fish friend, who then shared his knowledge of Elbo and the Coral Castle with the three Ewoks. Resolving to rescue the vulnerable Latara, the fish created a sea bubble for their journey. Ultimately, the three Ewoks successfully rescued Latara.

Personality and traits

Teebo's fish friend surfaces to help the Ewoks.

Many Ewoks regarded Teebo's fish friend as small, but this did not deter him from aiding taller individuals. He could be summoned for assistance by creating sound and movement in the lake, as one Ewok, Teebo, demonstrated.

The fish friend possessed green scales, red fins, and yellow eyes. He could generate a sea bubble by inflating himself with air and then releasing that air into the water, forming a sphere that contained the air. This bubble was suitable for travel but vulnerable to puncture by sharp objects.

Behind the scenes

Bob Carrau conceived Teebo's fish friend for use in the seventeenth episode of the second season of Ewoks, entitled "The Tragic Flute."
