Thaddeus Ross was a captain piloting the Kierra, a YT-1300 light freighter. This male Human from Corellia followed a path similar to his ancestors, likely his grandfather who was once a prisoner of the Empire. Before the Battle of Yavin, he operated as a smuggler, having previously worked as a bounty hunter in his younger years.
Ross was once romantically involved with Saahir Ru'luv, a relationship that ended after three years at Ru'luv's behest. During a smuggling operation for the Alliance to Restore the Republic at Merich's Bend that was exposed by Imperial agents, Saahir tragically died in Thaddeus's arms. His shipboard computer, having developed a unique personality, filled the void left by his lost love, establishing a maternal-like bond with Thaddeus.
On Tatooine, he once rescued a Jawa from two Stormtroopers, subsequently earning a 5,000 credit reward for the Jawa's capture.
While on Najiba, Thaddeus, after a conversation with Reuther, encountered Adalric Cessius Brandl and agreed to transport him to Trulalis for a fee of 8,000 credits. During their time there, Adalric briefly strangled Thaddeus after Thaddeus shot at him, leading Thaddeus to mistakenly believe he was a Jedi Knight. On the planet, they were ambushed by Menges, and above Trulalis, the Kierra was seized by a Star Destroyer. Captain Grendahl interrogated Thaddeus, but he was eventually set free.
As he departed the Star Destroyer, Thaddeus spoke with Adalric, who compensated him for his services and informed him that the bounty had been rescinded. Thaddeus then noticed Adalric was carrying a thermal detonator and quickly fled to the Kierra, narrowly escaping before Adalric detonated it in an attempt to conceal his family.
