Storyline Summary

A Wizard's Education

Zarrak, situated within his mountain stronghold, consults the Prophecy Pool, inquiring if a wizard exists with sufficient power to thwart him on Endor. The pool reveals visions of Teebo, a youthful Ewok who is now an apprentice under Zarrak's former mentor, Logray. Zarrak, recognizing Teebo's potential for great power, resolves to enlist him as his own apprentice, and subsequently departs on Zarrak's hang glider to locate Teebo.

At Bright Tree Village, Master Logray instructs Teebo to repeat a particular spell. Teebo attempts to levitate a leaf, but instead sends it spiraling erratically. Expressing his frustration, Teebo questions when he will be permitted to learn more complex spells. Master Logray believes that Teebo must first gain mastery over the fundamental spells.

Subsequently, Teebo seeks to impress Wicket, Latara, and Kneesaa with his levitating leaf trick; however, his friends remain unimpressed due to his inability to control the enchanted leaf. Kneesaa bursts into laughter, while Latara becomes covered in paint. Zarrak then intercepts the leaf, and approaches Wicket and his companions.

Zarrak's Praise and Deceit

Zarrak showers Teebo with compliments, declaring him a remarkable wizard. Latara voices her disagreement, while Kneesaa struggles to recall Zarrak's identity. Zarrak informs the younger Ewoks that he once served as Master Logray's initial apprentice, but departed from Bright Tree Village because Master Logray refused to impart the knowledge he sought. Teebo speculates that these were elaborate tricks. Zarrak captivates the Ewoks by conjuring fire to ignite a tree stump, and then inquires if Teebo is interested in learning from him.

Zarrak succeeds in recruiting Teebo. Kneesaa attempts to caution her friend, but Zarrak casts a spell that induces sleep upon her. Wicket and Latara carry Kneesaa back to her home. Teebo expresses a desire to accompany his friends, but Zarrak reiterates his offer to instruct him in more advanced magic. Meanwhile, Wicket and Latara transport the slumbering Kneesaa back to Bright Tree Village, placing her on a cart that soon spirals out of control, ultimately crashing into the marketplace, and coming to rest inside Master Logray's hut, where Kneesaa remains unconscious.

Upon inquiring about the commotion, Latara and Wicket inform Master Logray that Kneesaa has fallen into a deep sleep from which she cannot be roused. After examining Kneesaa, Master Logray concludes that she is under the influence of a sleeping spell. Wicket and Latara then recount their encounter with Zarrak to Logray. Logray explains that Zarrak was once his apprentice, but his impatience led him down a path of evil. When Logray refused to teach Zarrak dark magic, Zarrak attempted to steal the Sunstar, prompting Chief Chirpa to banish him. While Logray tends to Kneesaa, Wicket informs Logray that Zarrak offered to teach Teebo his tricks, horrifying Logray and the woklings.

Apprentice's Betrayal and Zarrak's Treachery

In the meantime, Zarrak demonstrates one of his abilities, which involves launching an enormous boulder. Teebo attempts to replicate the feat, but instead causes several rocks to tumble from the cave's ceiling. Zarrak dismisses Teebo's abilities, asserting that he excels in transformation. For the subsequent demonstration, Zarrak transforms a tortoise-like creature into a colossal monster before reverting it to its original form. He then invites Teebo to try, but Teebo expresses reservations, deeming it somewhat cruel. Teebo attempts the spell, but misses his target and instead transforms some strangle vines into ravenous monsters, which ensnare him. Zarrak then restores the vines to their normal state.

Growing increasingly frustrated, Zarrak consults the fountain, which responds by spitting at him. Zarrak resolves to quickly dispose of Teebo. For Teebo's final lesson, Zarrak employs a crane to lower Teebo into an abyss teeming with spirits. The other Ewoks soon arrive, having been alerted by Teebo's cries. Master Logray demands that Zarrak leave Teebo alone. Zarrak retaliates against his former master with fire. Meanwhile, Kneesaa uses her lasso to pull Teebo to safety. However, the platform upon which Teebo is standing breaks off and plunges into the abyss, but Teebo manages to cling to Kneesaa's lasso, and she and Latara pull him up.

Overcoming Zarrak

Simultaneously, Zarrak mocks Logray, asserting that his magic is no match for his own. He surrounds his master with fire, but the shaman employs his own magic to extinguish the flames. Wicket leaps onto Zarrak's head, covering it with his robes. Zarrak flashes his diamond, while Kneesaa and Latara hoist Teebo up from the cliff. Kneesaa is determined to assist Logray. Utilizing his crystal, Zarrak hurls rocks at Logray, overpowering him. Kneesaa and Latara attempt to intervene, but Zarrak uses his magic to trap them beneath metal structures.

Zarrak also imprisons Master Logray and Wicket within metal structures, intending to exchange the Sunstar for their lives. Teebo decides to employ the leaf trick to thwart Zarrak. Harnessing his magical abilities, he animates several leaves, which overwhelm Zarrak, causing him to drop his crystal, which shatters and releases Logray and Teebo's friends from their restraints. Wicket is overjoyed. The leaves pursue Zarrak off the cliff's edge, causing him to fall into the abyss.

Latara and Kneesaa applaud Teebo for his heroism. Later, Teebo apologizes to Master Logray, stating that he no longer desires the "big, flashy" tricks and is content with the "little boring ones." Logray assures Teebo that he will become a skilled wizard one day. Teebo, however, admits that Zarrak's trick with the strangle vines was impressive and requests a demonstration, but his friends decline. Logray laughs.
