"Hard Sell" marks the eleventh installment of the second season of the animated series, Ewoks. This episode, penned by Michael Reaves and brought to life by director Dale Schott, was originally broadcast on October 25, 1986 via the ABC network.
Wicket, Teebo, Latara, and Kneesaa are depicted journeying through the forests of Endor. Kneesaa expresses confusion over Latara's dislike for her newly acquired blue scarf adorned with green stripes. Latara retorts, stating her preference for a green scarf featuring blue stripes. Teebo voices his enthusiasm for revisiting Mooth the Trader's Hut, citing the availability of appealing trade items. Wicket cautions the group about their proximity to the Bobog's dwelling.
Kneesaa declares him to be the forest's most unpleasant inhabitant. Teebo inadvertently steps on a twig, alerting the Bobog, who emerges from his bamboo shelter and demands the Ewoks vacate the area or face being consumed. The Bobog pursues them through the woods. During their escape, Latara's scarf snags on a branch. She successfully retrieves it, narrowly evading the Bobog, who instead seizes the branch. Upon exiting the forest, the Ewoks descend a hill. The Bobog warns them to stay away from his property.
The quartet of Ewoks approaches Mooth's dwelling, arriving just as he expels two pots during a sneeze. Inside the wooden structure, they observe Mooth's disarrayed home and his affliction with a cold. Mooth is shown soaking his feet in a container of heated water. Mooth attempts to downplay his condition, while Kneesaa offers reassurance.
Wicket discovers a collection of Eodon tusks within Mooth's hut and envisions them as a decorative addition above his hammock. Kneesaa believes they would enhance her father's helmet. Teebo suggests that Eodon tusks possess mystical attributes. Latara expresses her admiration for their aesthetic appeal and desires one. Sensing their collective interest, Mooth proposes awarding the Eodon tusks to the individual who can exchange the most of his merchandise.
Wicket consents to the arrangement. Mooth advises them that the riverbank is the prime location for trading but cautions them about the Bobog, whom he identifies as the forest's most challenging customer. The Ewoks acknowledge this and depart before Mooth can sneeze again.
Near the river, Wicket brags about his ability to charm potential customers with his attractive appearance. Kneesaa counters, asserting that she and Latara can outmaneuver him and Teebo. Teebo disputes this claim. As the competition intensifies, Wicket suggests that he and Teebo take one side of the river, while the girls take the other. Kneesaa agrees, stipulating that the individual who secures the most trades will emerge victorious.
On their designated side of the river, Wicket declares his intention to surpass the girls' efforts. He and Teebo pay a visit to the Kagles' residence, assuming they have broad tastes. The Kagles express their delight at seeing them. Wicket proposes selling Mooth's swamp pickles, which are so unappealing that even flies avoid them. Wicket urges Teebo to sample one, resulting in an adverse reaction. Wicket asserts that Teebo fainted from excessive pleasure.
The leading Kagle informs Wicket that he doesn't need to persuade them. The other Kagles chime in, stating that they regularly consume Mooth's swamp pickles but lack items for exchange. They accept the swamp pickles without providing payment. Wicket is disappointed, while Teebo laments the lingering unpleasantness in his mouth. Latara observes the boys and laughs.
Upon her return, Kneesaa scolds her for observing the boys but seeks information about their progress. Latara reveals that Wicket and Teebo have performed poorly and are unlikely to obtain the Eodon tusks. Kneesaa approaches Darling, a rodent-like creature, who is using her prominent teeth to gnaw on tree trunks to create wooden figures.
Latara attempts to persuade Darling to exchange one of her statues for one of Mooth's pink cloaks. However, the cloak becomes entangled on a branch and is torn into strips. Darling declines to trade. Observing the girls, Wicket rejoices, but Teebo reminds him that they have not completed any trades either.
Crossing the bridge, an enthusiastic Wicket tries to sell a fire feather blanket to Larry. Larry expresses his desire for the blanket but laments his lack of trade items, citing his solitary and friendless existence. Larry successfully manipulates Teebo and Wicket into gifting him the feather blanket. Teebo believes it was a kind gesture, but Wicket is disheartened by their failure to secure paying customers. Wicket pledges to visit every dwelling.
Wicket visits numerous huts but is met with repeated rejections from creatures of varying sizes. Frustrated, Wicket decides to approach the Bobog. Teebo is hesitant due to the Bobog's hostile nature. Wicket is determined to complete a trade to prevent the girls from acquiring the Eodon tusks.
In the meantime, Latara and Kneesaa attempt to sell a wart removal device to a reptilian creature. Dissatisfied with Kneesaa's sales pitch, Latara decides to demonstrate a "proper" approach. Latara approaches the creature and employs her feminine charm in an attempt to persuade it. However, this incites the creature, who seizes her and carries her up a tree. Kneesaa is compelled to rescue Latara using her lasso.
Following their unsuccessful sale, the two girls find themselves in the vicinity of the Bobog's lair. The Bobog approaches carrying a bag filled with treasures. Despite their previous unpleasant encounter, Latara is resolved to trade with the Bobog. Kneesaa deems it too perilous, but Latara is determined to outdo the boys. She aims to win over the elderly miser with her feminine allure.
Latara attempts to sell shampoo to the Bobog and even applies some to his hair before massaging it into his scalp. Disregarding Kneesaa's warnings, Latara pours a jar of tree sap on Bobog's head, creating a sticky mess. The enraged Bobog pursues Kneesaa and Latara, who escape up a tree.
Witnessing the girls' predicament, Wicket and Teebo decide to intervene. Wicket manages to bind the Bobog's hands with a lasso, but he breaks free. Teebo throws Wicket a jar of candy. Despite his reservations, Wicket throws the candy into the Bobog's mouth, immobilizing him.
Later, outside Mooth's hut, Latara complains about their inability to complete any trades, while Wicket laments their losses. The Ewoks worry about Mooth's potential anger. To their surprise, they observe the Kagles enjoying themselves at Mooth's hut. However, Mooth is pleased that he brought over the Kagles since they traded their family cold cure for more swamp pickles.
Mooth reveals that even the Bobog visited and exchanged jewels for fudge. He adds that the Bobog enjoys the fudge. When Mooth inquires about who deserves the Eodon tusks, Wicket claims that they are his because he persuaded the Kagels to become Mooth's customers. Teebo argues that he deserves them because he had to consume a swamp pickle. Kneesaa asserts that they are hers because she carried the pack. Latara disagrees, stating that she risked her life to provide the Bobog with shampoo.
At that moment, the Eodon arrives and declares that the tusks belong to him. The Ewoks are taken aback, but a conciliatory Wicket returns the tusks to the Eodon.
