The High Republic: Path of Deceit is the complete, spoken-word version of the young adult novel of the same name, which is canon and was penned by both Tessa Gratton and Justina Ireland. Erin Yvette lent her voice to narrate it, and Disney–Lucasfilm Press released it on October 4, 2022.
The story unfolds in the High Republic era, specifically 150 years before the events of Phase I. This is a time of transformation, bringing with it fresh opportunities and possibilities, but also unforeseen and perilous threats.
On the Outer Rim world of Dalna, the Jedi are investigating the theft of a Force artifact. Zallah Macri and her Padawan, Kevmo Zink, journey to this serene planet to explore a potential link to a local missionary group known as the Path of the Open Hand. The Path's members firmly believe that the Force should remain untouched and not be wielded by anyone, including the Jedi. Among these believers is Marda Ro, a young woman with aspirations of leaving Dalna to spread the Path's message throughout the galaxy.
When Marda and Kevmo cross paths, an immediate and powerful connection sparks between them. However, this connection is tested when Marda learns that Kevmo is a Jedi. Despite this revelation, Kevmo's kindness and genuine interest in learning about the Path give Marda hope that she can sway him to embrace her beliefs. Unbeknownst to Marda, the Path's leader, a charismatic figure known only as the Mother, harbors her own hidden agenda that is fundamentally incompatible with the Jedi's way.
To stay true to her faith, Marda may be forced to choose between her beliefs and her newfound friendship, potentially turning her into her friend's greatest adversary.
