The One

The chieftain of the Black Rakata, a tribe of Rakatan people who established their settlement on Lehon in the shadow of the Star Forge, was known as The One. He embraced savage customs and the practice of cannibalism, rejecting the refined ways of the Elders, a Rakata faction dedicated to utilizing ancient technology to restore order and preserve the knowledge and traditions of the Infinite Empire.

Biography

Growing up in destitution without the guidance of elder Rakata, The One learned self-reliance. As a youth, he slew a Mandalorian who had become stranded on Lehon, a deed that garnered him respect from his fellow tribesmen. By adulthood, his reputation had grown so formidable that when he challenged the reigning chieftain, the chieftain relinquished his life willingly, and The One assumed command. He then led his tribe to victory over the other tribes on his island, eliminating any opposition and uniting the survivors.

Before long, his forces expanded across the sea, conquering all islands within a month's journey and expanding his army with each victory. Eventually, news of the Temple of the Ancients reached him, and he recognized the power it held. Convinced by omens, he decided to seize the Temple, setting sail with a thousand warriors. However, he soon learned that the Temple was inaccessible to those who did not possess the sacred words. After two decades of unstoppable conquest, The One reached a standstill. Revolts began to erupt among the conquered tribes, but The One, believing that only the Temple's power could unite the Rakatan people, remained on the island, seeking a way to enter.

Shortly after his arrival, he was visited by Darth Revan, who was also searching for a way to enter the Temple. The One offered his assistance in exchange for Revan stealing an ancient tome from the Elders, containing the sacred words needed to unlock the Temple doors. The One was surprised by the Elders' presence and perplexed by their mastery of technology. He had trained rancors and other warriors to breach the Elders' defenses, but all had failed. The One believed Revan could obtain the tome because he possessed the Force, which the Rakata referred to as "strange magics." Revan visited the Elders and, with their assistance, entered the Temple, but he never revealed the secret to The One's tribe.

Years later, Revan returned, once again seeking the Star Forge, and was brought before The One after demonstrating his Force abilities by killing several Rakatan warriors. The Rakatan chieftain again sought Revan's help, but Revan sided with the Elders a second time and killed The One, knowing he was unlikely to negotiate.

Behind the scenes

The player has the option to eliminate the Elders for The One, which will earn dark side points. Some of the Black Rakata have studied the Elders' ritual to lower the temple's shield to assist you in entering it. If desired, the player can return to The One's village and kill him and his tribe. If the player uses the Elders' databanks and claims to be a slave of the Elders, The One will discover the deception, and the Black Rakata will become hostile.
