Thrawn Ascendancy: Greater Good, a canon novel penned by Timothy Zahn, has an unabridged audio version, which shares the same title. Random House Audio made it available as a digital download on April 27, 2021.
In Timothy Zahn's second installment of the Star Wars: The Ascendancy Trilogy, Thrawn and his comrades are in a frantic race against time to shield the Chiss Ascendancy from a shadowy adversary.
Thrawn is still basking in the glow of his most recent victory. Despite leading the Chiss to triumph and bringing honor to the House of Mitth, the real danger to the Ascendancy persists. Their enemies do not resort to threats, ultimatums, or assembling fleets at the edge of Chaos. Instead, they employ weapons disguised as smiles and generosity—gifts freely given, services rendered without conditions.
Across the Ascendancy, seemingly insignificant occurrences could foreshadow the Chiss's downfall. As Thrawn and the Expansionary Defense Fleet mobilize to expose the enemy's scheme, they uncover a disturbing truth. Rather than attacking Chiss capitals or looting resources, this enigmatic foe targets the Ascendancy's very core, exacerbating the divisions between the Nine Ruling Families and the Forty Great Houses beneath them. The CD version of the audiobook was announced but subsequently removed from release schedules.
The narrator's pronunciation of "Uingali" is incorrect in chapter 3.
In chapter 11, the audiobook uses the phrase "What is it?", whereas the book reads, "What is that?".
In chapter 16, there's a mix-up: both the book and audiobook incorrectly identify Droc'tri'morhs (Octrimo), the Vigilant's helm officer, as Wikivv, who is actually the Grayshrike's helm officer.
In chapter 23, the phrase, "Thrawn said mildly," is omitted by the narrator. The book includes the line "'I wasn't going to offer one, Senior Captain,' Thrawn said mildly. 'Be assured in turn...'", but the audiobook skips to "I wasn't going to offer one, Senior Captain. Be assured in turn...".
In chapter 26, the phrase, "Thyklo said," is missing from the audiobook. The book contains the line "'As will we all.' Thyklo said. 'And now you're expected...'", while the audiobook only says, "As will we all. And now you're expected...".
Marc Thompson, a veteran Star Wars audiobook narrator, lent his voice to the audiobook, which was launched by Random House Audio on April 27, 2021. Kevin Thomsen served as the producer and director, with Nick Martorelli as the executive producer. Justin Kilpatrick and Paul Goodrich handled the audiobook's post-production and editing.
On July 24, 2023, Random House Audio, Deutschland released a German language version of the audiobook, with narration by Hans Henrik Wöhler.
