The Thrawn Simulator came into existence as a program designed to evaluate ship commanders in their tactical approaches when facing the strategies of Thrawn, the late Grand Admiral who was considered among the most brilliant military minds in the galaxy's history. The first New Republic (and later Galactic Alliance) commander who could reliably overcome the Thrawn Simulator in simulations was Admiral Nek Bwua'tu, who was a Bothan.
