THX

THX is a quality assurance certification. It guarantees a high standard for sound reproduction in various systems. These systems include movie theaters, home theaters, computer speakers, gaming consoles, and car audio. George Lucas' Lucasfilm created THX in 1983. The goal was to ensure the soundtrack of _Return of the Jedi_, the third Star Wars film, would be reproduced with accuracy in premier venues.

In 2002, Lucasfilm's THX division became its own entity, THX. In that same year, Creative Technology Limited, a sound card manufacturer, acquired a 60% stake in THX. Creative has a long history with THX, having developed the Sound Blaster Audigy 2, the first THX-certified audio card for computers.

Razer Inc., a video-game hardware company, purchased THX in 2016. Razer now owns all of THX and its intellectual property.

The name THX is a reference to THX 1138, the first feature film directed by George Lucas.
