Tofen Vane

Tofen Vane, hailing from Valahari, was a Human strong in the Force. As a member of the House of Vane, he chose to align himself with the Confederacy of Independent Systems during the tumultuous period known as the Clone Wars.

Biography

Once, Tofen participated in podracing against Anakin Skywalker, a hero of the Republic. Later, following the death of his father, Harko Vane, in an incident that appeared to be a Republic attack, he joined the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Unbeknownst to Tofen, Count Dooku had secretly orchestrated this event to sway Valahari and the House of Vane, of which Dooku was an old friend, to the Separatist cause. Tofen subsequently rose to prominence as a hero within the war.

As Tofen demonstrated considerable success and unwavering determination in his pursuit of Republican forces, Anakin confronted him in a dogfight, attempting to reason with him. During the aerial battle, both pilots were shot down, crash-landing on a nearby moon. In their subsequent confrontation, Anakin finally succeeded in planting seeds of doubt within Tofen's mind. However, even after his mother, Elodore Vane, presented her son with irrefutable evidence of Dooku's involvement in his father's demise, Tofen remained steadfast in his resolve to fight against the Republic.

In the ensuing Battle of the Veil Nebula, Tofen once again engaged Anakin in aerial combat. Regrettably, during their engagement, Tofen's fighter sustained critical damage to its thrusters, ultimately causing them to fail and engulfing the craft in flames. Displaying remarkable bravery, Anakin towed the burning fighter aboard a Republic cruiser in a desperate attempt to save Tofen's life. Tragically, Tofen's burns proved too severe. In his final moments, a remorseful Tofen implored Anakin to seek justice for his father's death before passing away in Anakin's arms. Shortly thereafter, Elodore Vane unceremoniously banished the Count.

Behind the scenes

The character of Tofen Vane draws inspiration from Manfred von Richthofen, famously known as the "Red Baron," a renowned pilot from World War I. Similar to the Red Baron, Vane pilots a red aircraft, and his uniform features decorations reminiscent of those worn by the Imperial German Luftstreitkräfte.
