Tolum Harous was a scientist employed by the Hydrospeare Corporation during the era of the Galactic Empire.
Originating from the water-covered world of Adamastor, Harous, a Human scientist, possessed a lifelong passion for both the oceans and the pursuit of knowledge. In his younger years, he shared a classroom with Bevel Lemelisk. His extensive education led to the acquisition of numerous honorary degrees from various technical institutions.
Around 30 BBY, he commenced his career at Hydrospeare Corporation, where his work was consistently of high caliber. The Imperial scientific community recognized his contributions with numerous accolades. Despite receiving lucrative offers from corporations such as Sienar Fleet Systems and Kuat Drive Yards to join their ranks, he remained content with his position at Hydrospeare.
As a valued member of the prestigious Design Team Beta, led by Dr. Plo Smarx, Harous was known to discard projects deemed "more than acceptable" if he believed further improvements were possible. The team's primary focus involved the development of aquatic weaponry and vehicles for the Imperial Army.
Following Dr. Smarx's arrest by the Empire around 1 ABY, Harous assumed leadership of Design Team Beta. Since that time, Harous, alongside his colleagues Mosara Thiirn, Sere Lure, and Diran Miciluz, successfully developed and managed some of the most effective multi-environment vehicles utilized by the Empire.
Harous initially hesitated to approve the Explorer Submergible, driven by his desire to meet the seemingly unattainable specifications set by the Empire. However, the other members of Design Team Beta ultimately persuaded him to release the vehicle.
Described as a short man with light skin and white hair, he maintained an impeccable appearance, ensuring his office was meticulously organized and his coats were freshly pressed, thanks to his tailor droid, the latest TL-4 model. He was regarded as a pleasant and inspiring colleague. He even dedicated himself to learning Sluissese to enhance Dr. Lure's comfort and collaboration.
General Airen Cracken of the Rebel Alliance held Harous's work in high esteem, acknowledging that any design originating from him would pose a significant threat in the hands of the Empire. However, Lieutenant Akul Witig, a native of Dac, observed that the Rebel Alliance lacked information regarding Harous's political leanings and suggested assessing his loyalty, with the possibility of recruiting him to contribute to Dac's efforts.
