Navigational aids known as transponder buoys provided guidance to starships as they traversed dangerous zones. To enable safe passage for starship traffic through the asteroid belt, stationary transponder buoys were positioned within the Rokwahl Asteroid Belt of the Lazerian system, which was situated in the Expansion Region. A warning to space travelers made clear that interfering with these buoys was a crime punishable by death.
The creation of transponder buoys is attributed to John Terra, and they were first presented in Twin Stars of Kira, a 1993 add-on for Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game by West End Games.
