The Tren were a species of sentient humanoids characterized by their resilient, hairless skin, which exhibited shades of blue to purple. Their facial features were relatively simple. A defining characteristic of the Tren was their societal emphasis on order, a value that occasionally overshadowed their ethical judgment. These beings established colonies on three distinct worlds, with Nopsin being one of them.
During the era of the Galactic Civil War, the Tren people initially held differing views regarding support for either the Galactic Empire or the Alliance to Restore the Republic. As Tren colonies progressively pledged allegiance to the Empire, a resistance movement emerged to challenge the New Order. The species became fully integrated into the Empire when Nopsin cast its vote to join the Empire. However, resistance persisted, particularly among individuals. One such Rebel sympathizer was the Tren named Opit-Wenbruh, who, upon completing his service in the military, enlisted in the Rebel Alliance. He functioned as a heavy weapons expert within both Scandium Team and Brace Team.
The Tren were sentient humanoids possessing sturdy physiques and durable skin, colored in variations of bluish to purple, providing protection against injuries. Each member of this species lacked hair entirely and possessed five-fingered hands. The species exhibited sexual dimorphism, with distinct male and female genders. The Tren head bore resemblance to that of a Human, featuring two eyes, a nose, a mouth, and two ears positioned similarly. However, their prominent jawline, sloped forehead, and pupil-less eyes gave Tren faces a "simple" appearance in the perception of other species.
Tren society was characterized by an intense pursuit of order. This drive was so powerful that it occasionally took precedence over the species' moral compass.
The Tren possessed the capability of space travel, which facilitated the establishment of three colonies. During the Galactic Civil War, at least one of these colonies, the planet Nopsin, maintained a military. Soldiers on Nopsin were required to complete their military service before pursuing alternative professions.
The Tren established colonies on three planets, with Nopsin being the last. This world in the Mid Rim was colonized before the Galactic Civil War commenced. During this conflict that spanned the galaxy, the Tren struggled to decide whether to pledge their allegiance to the Galactic Empire or the Alliance to Restore the Republic. Resistance movements arose to oppose the New Order and advocate for Tren support of the Alliance. However, the strong desire for order led other Tren to support Emperor Palpatine's new regime. Eventually, two of the three colonies officially declared their support for the Empire, outlawing pro-Alliance fighters, suppressing the remaining fighters, and decimating their support base.
Nopsin was the only colony that remained undecided. Nopsin ultimately held a vote to determine the planet's allegiance, which the pro-Imperial Tren won decisively. The remaining resistance fighters recognized the futility of their cause and ceased attempting to persuade their fellow Tren to join the Rebellion. Consequently, the Tren colonies voluntarily became member governments of the Galactic Empire.
As Nopsin declared its support for the Empire, a young soldier in its military named Opit-Wenbruh experienced conflicting loyalties. He was one of the few Tren who valued morality over orderliness, and he wanted to complete his tour of duty. However, he sympathized with the Tren resistance and the Rebel Alliance due to the Empire's actions that he considered immoral. Opit-Wenbruh waited until his term of service ended and then launched a campaign against the Empire to retaliate for the evils he believed it had committed.
Opit-Wenbruh eventually joined the Rebel Alliance as a member of Scandium Team, one of the Rebellion's earliest Special Operations units. He used his military experience as a heavy weapons specialist. Following Scandium's dissolution due to heavy losses in various engagements, Opit-Wenbruh served as a weapons technician and designer. He later joined Brace Team, an Alliance group that specialized in using heavy weapons to create a barrier between Alliance and Imperial forces.
The Tren were conceived by authors C. Robert Carey and Trevor J. Wilson for the article "Cracken's Rebel Operatives," featured in the Star Wars Adventure Journal 11 in November 1996. Kathy Burdette provided the illustration for Opit-Wenbruh, the Tren character introduced in the article. Years later, in 2011, an entry for the Opitha Tren system was included in an update to Star Wars: The Essential Atlas Online Companion. According to comments made by Jason Fry, one of The Essential Atlas authors, several new star systems have been added to the Atlas project to represent the homeworlds of species, based on contextual clues derived from their names. Therefore, Opitha Tren may be intended to represent the home star system of the Tren species.
