Plot summary

In the year 6 BBY, the Galactic Empire formally installed itself on Garos IV, thereby bringing an end to the internal conflict known as the Garosian civil war. Driven by considerable zeal, Dair Haslip made the choice to enlist in the ranks of the Imperial Army. Nevertheless, in the days preceding his planned enrollment at the Raithal Academy, an incident occurred: while strolling across Garos IV in the company of his longtime companion, Jos Mayda, they fell victim to an assault by a pair of Imperial scout troopers engaged in the pursuit of a deserter. Jos was fatally wounded without provocation, prompting Dair to retaliate by eliminating the troopers. Following this event, he recounted the details to his grandmother, Keriin Haslip, who then connected him with the underground movement known as the Garos resistance. Appalled by the Empire's tactics, yet persuaded by the resistance members, Dair agreed to infiltrate the academy in the role of a spy.
