Twirrling

A Naboo monarch riding a gualama while twirrling. Twirrling, a sport enjoyed by nobles across the galaxy, traces its origins to Naboo. In this hunting activity, nobles would ride tamed gualamas and employ trained twirrls to locate and retrieve game, typically consisting of small mammals and various waterfowl.

A Queen of Naboo during the era of the New Republic engaged in twirrling, using her personal collection of gualamas.

Behind the scenes

The notion of the aristocracy using birds of prey in hunting shares strong similarities with the real-world sport of Falconry. Falconry employs birds like falcons and hawks to hunt smaller animals. While practiced globally in different forms, falconry was particularly favored by European nobles during the medieval period.
