The Umbara alphabet served as the writing system for Umbarese, which is the language used by the Umbaran people. This alphabet was composed of 26 letters, alongside supplementary symbols representing numbers and punctuation. Each letter or symbol was fundamentally shaped as a circle or a portion thereof, embellished with diverse dots, lines, and other internal elements.
The Umbara alphabet made its debut in "Darkness on Umbara," specifically in the seventh episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars' fourth season. This episode was broadcast on October 28, 2011. Chris Glenn, a concept artist, created the alphabet for The Clone Wars show, designing each letter using circular forms as the foundation.
