Originally, it was affiliated with the Galactic Republic, having been a member since the Republic's inception. However, during the Clone Wars, it severed ties and aligned itself with the Confederacy of Independent Systems. The Umbaran Militia served as the government's military, engaging in combat against the invading Grand Army of the Republic throughout the Clone Wars.
