Unidentified Aqualish (Nar Shaddaa)

An Aqualish male plied his trade as a bounty hunter during the year 5 ABY. On the moon Nar Shaddaa, the Aqualish accepted a contract from the droid information broker known as 8t88. The target? Kyle Katarn, a man 8t88 had betrayed. The Aqualish eventually located Katarn within the depths of a sewer system. Upon his arrival, he discovered the bounty hunter Porg unconscious; Katarn was concealed nearby. Katarn attempted to fire a blaster pistol at the Aqualish, but the shot proved ineffective against the Aqualish's protective armor. The Aqualish returned fire as Katarn readied another shot, but both marksmen inadvertently struck a newly revived Porg, who had inadvertently positioned himself between them. The death of Porg momentarily stunned the Aqualish, and Katarn seized the opportunity to fire, landing a fatal shot to the Aqualish's head.

Biography

In the year 5 ABY, an Aqualish male pursued the profession of bounty hunter. Stationed on the moon Nar Shaddaa, he was enlisted by 8t88, a droid information broker in the service of the Galactic Empire. Porg, a Trandoshan bounty hunter familiar to the Aqualish, also worked for 8t88. The assignment involved locating and killing Kyle Katarn, a former Imperial soldier and operative of the New Republic, whom 8t88 had encountered in a local cantina. 8t88 had offered Katarn information, only to betray him. After Katarn evaded 8t88's bounty hunters in the cantina, the Aqualish and other hired guns set out to eliminate Katarn. However, the ex-soldier caught up to 8t88 and, during a lightfight, severed 8t88's arm. The rest of 8t88 escaped, and Katarn sought to retrieve the arm, which held a crucial datadisc. The arm had fallen into a sewer, where Katarn was ambushed by Porg after the former found the arm.

The Aqualish was hunting nearby, aware of Porg's presence in the vicinity. After Katarn incapacitated Porg with a kick, the Aqualish, drawn by the sounds of the scuffle, called out to Porg. He failed to spot Katarn, who was concealed. In an attempt to assassinate the Aqualish, Katarn emerged from cover and fired a single shot from his Bryar pistol, striking the bounty hunter in the chest. However, the Aqualish's protective body armor deflected the blaster bolt. The Aqualish returned fire, forcing Katarn back into cover. As the two combatants prepared for another exchange, Porg slowly regained consciousness and stood up – precisely as the Aqualish and Katarn discharged their weapons at each other. Both shots struck Porg, resulting in his immediate death. The Aqualish was stunned by the accidental killing of his fellow hunter, and his hesitation allowed Katarn to deliver a fatal headshot, eliminating the Aqualish bounty hunter. Ultimately, Katarn escaped Nar Shaddaa.

Personality and traits

Upon arriving at the scene of the confrontation between Porg and Katarn, the Aqualish boldly entered the sewers, exposing himself to Katarn. However, the bounty hunter had the foresight to wear blaster-resistant armor, which protected him from a direct hit to the chest. However, after accidentally shooting his fellow bounty hunter, the Aqualish was so stunned that he once again left himself open for attack. This time, Katarn aimed for his unprotected head.

Equipment

While employed by 8t88, the Aqualish wore body armor capable of deflecting direct blaster bolts. He was also equipped with a light-mounted blast rifle.

Behind the scenes

The Aqualish made his debut in the 1998 novella Dark Forces: Rebel Agent, authored by William C. Dietz. The Aqualish was mentioned in The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia under Porg's entry, claiming that the Aqualish purposefully shot Porg, as opposed to his death being an accident as depicted in the novella. This article assumes that the novella is the correct depiction of events. In the novella's audio drama adaption, the Aqualish appears to shoot at Katarn after the latter defeats Porg for the first time, but neither his nor Porg's deaths are depicted, as the scene ends as soon as Katarn is fired upon.
