A Jedi of the Human race and male sex served the Jedi Order during the period known as the Clone Wars. The Jedi Council gave this Jedi an assignment in 22 BBY: locate and capture the Jedi Knight Vydel Dir'Nul. After a search lasting six months, the Jedi finally found Dir'Nul and confronted her on the planet called Perilious. He won a duel against her, but then she used Force lightning against him, which caused her to revert to the persona of Kardem, a Dark Jedi that she created after she murdered her lover, Ash B'risko. The Jedi tried to kill Dir'Nul, but instead, the Jedi Knight killed him.

During the Clone Wars, a galactic conflict between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems, a Jedi who was a male Human served the Jedi Order. In the year 22 BBY, the Jedi Council dispatched him to locate and bring in the former Jedi Knight known as Vydel Dir'Nul. On the planet of Perilious, he encountered Dir'Nul, who believed him to be the Dark Jedi Kardem. After the Jedi was victorious in a lightsaber duel with her, Dir'Nul transformed back into the Kardem personality—a persona she had fabricated following the killing of her lover, Ash B'risko—and used Force lightning to torture the Jedi. After he explained the Council's reasons for sending him after her, the Jedi attempted to kill her, but Dir'Nul ultimately defeated and killed him. Soon after his death, Dir'Nul—reverting to her original self—pledged to stop Kardem, unaware that she herself was the one who had killed the male Jedi.
The Jedi had a strong determination to capture Vydel Dir'Nul and return her to the Jedi Council, regardless of whether she was alive or dead. His lightsaber contained a green crystal.
The Jedi demonstrated his skill in lightsaber combat by defeating Vydel Dir'Nul. He also showed his ability to use the Force to throw his lightsaber at Dir'Nul.
The male Jedi's first appearance was in the short comic called "Dark Journey," which was included in Star Wars Tales 17 and written by Jason Hall. Ben Templesmith provided the artwork for the comic. Later, the story was compiled into a trade paperback and republished in Star Wars Tales Volume 5. Initially, plausible stories in Star Wars Tales 1–20 were considered S-canon until a non-Tales source referenced them, at which point the subject matter was elevated to C-canon status. Because Vydel Dir'Nul was referenced outside of the Tales comic, the events of Dark Journey were elevated to C-canon, thus establishing the Jedi who was killed by Dir'Nul as a canonical character.
