The New Academy for Space Pilots, a flight training center under the command of General Oleson, was situated there. The academy's purpose was to train young men and women in the art of spaceflight, preparing them to transport individuals to previously uninhabited worlds. These intelligent and skilled people would then establish new societies, built upon the principles of peace, justice, and goodwill. Certain colonists would construct dwellings, schools, and power stations. At that time, the Planetary Pioneers had plans to harness the potent Zukonium rays within their power stations. Rather than utilizing them for purposes of warfare and devastation, these Zukonium rays were intended to supply energy to the nascent colonies.
At one juncture, Princess Leia Organa paid a visit to the academy, during which Skywalker shared details about the Planetary Pioneers' mission. However, their tour was cut short by the sounding of an emergency siren. Due to reasons not fully understood, a small moon originating from a nearby system had been dislodged from its normal orbit and was now on a trajectory that would lead to a collision with the planet. With no opportunity for evacuation, Skywalker and the Planetary Pioneers entered their aging X-wing starfighters in an attempt to obliterate the rogue moon using Zukonium rays. Tapping into the power of the Force, Skywalker proved to be the only pilot capable of penetrating the moon's robust magnetic field. He then discharged the Zukonium rays into the center of the moon, successfully destroying it. Skywalker's X-wing sustained damage from the resulting explosion, necessitating an emergency landing. Upon his return to the academy, Princess Leia Organa presented Skywalker with a medal of honor in recognition of his heroic actions in saving the planet.
