This secret agent of the Rebellion was on board a StarSpeeder 1000 from the Star Tours travel company twelve months prior to the Battle of Yavin. Before the spacecraft departed from a space station, Imperial operatives found out the spy was present and tried to apprehend the Rebel. The ship took off and fought its way through Imperial ships surrounding the space station. After being pursued through hyperspace, the StarSpeeder touched down and got the spy to a safe location.
During the Star Tours: The Adventures Continue amusement park attraction, the Rebel spy is nearly always one of the attraction's travelers, chosen randomly and displayed on a video monitor inside the cabin. The traveler can be either a man or a woman, which affects the speech of the Alliance representative who addresses the passengers (Ackbar, Princess Leia or Yoda). Sometimes, the spy will not be someone in the cabin, and a picture of a typical person or an alien shows up instead. The spy's ultimate destination is also randomly picked, with the StarSpeeder arriving at the Rebel fleet, a Naboo starship bay, or a Coruscant landing area. Products sold at the parks included shirts and pins featuring the Prowler droid from the attraction and the words "I Am The Rebel Spy."
The specific way the spy was discovered depended on the particular opening used for the attraction. Either the spy's ride will be stopped by Darth Vader himself with a Stormtrooper squad and a TIE fighter squadron (with Vader also attempting to pull in the escaping ship using the Force, only to be forced to let go of the escaping ship while trying to deflect blaster shots from the ship's guns) or they will be discovered by a Prowler droid scanning the ship.
Later versions of the ride were added with content from the Sequel trilogy of movies, beginning with Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens in 2015. While the update initially kept the "Rebel spy" theme (which conflicted with the Sequel trilogy timeline), further updates added in 2017 for Star Wars: Episode VIII The Last Jedi included Kylo Ren in a scene similar to Darth Vader's. In these scenes, the spy is working for the Resistance instead of the Rebel Alliance.
