During the era of the Jedi Civil War, a male Human serving as a Republic soldier was part of the crew aboard the Endar Spire, a Hammerhead-class cruiser. As the ship underwent an attack and was subsequently invaded by the Sith while orbiting the planet Taris, he, along with several others, made their escape from the Endar Spire utilizing an escape pod. This pod ultimately crashed within the Undercity of the planet. After the crash event, rakghoul creatures brought about the deaths of the soldier's companions. He himself sustained injuries and became infected with the rakghoul plague. Some days later, this man was discovered and received a cure from Revan, a fellow soldier within the Republic ranks, only to be killed by rakghouls immediately after.
Biography
A male Human who served as a soldier in the Galactic Republic Army fought during the Jedi Civil War against the Sith Empire led by the Sith Lord Darth Malak. Back in 3956 BBY, this soldier was stationed on the Endar Spire, a Hammerhead-class cruiser, serving under the command of Jedi Knight Bastila Shan. In that year, the Endar Spire was deployed alongside a Jedi battle fleet to confront Malak's invading fleet near the planet Taris. A battle ignited in space above Taris, resulting in the Sith boarding the Endar Spire in an attempt to capture Shan. However, she managed to escape the ship via an escape pod. With Shan gone, the Sith were then prepared to destroy the Republic vessel. The soldier, along with several other members of the crew, successfully reached an escape pod and ejected themselves shortly before the Endar Spire was destroyed.
As the escape pod carrying the survivors descended towards Taris, the soldiers picked up a signal originating from Shan's own pod. Just before their crash within the planet's Undercity, the escapees managed to track Shan's pod, observing its descent somewhere to the west. Shortly after, their own pod experienced a crash landing in the Undercity, leading to the loss of the signal from Shan's craft. Upon the surviving soldiers exiting their escape pod, they faced an immediate assault from savage rakghoul creatures, resulting in the deaths of all except the soldier. The man was wounded and contracted the rakghoul plague, an affliction that would eventually transform him into a rakghoul. Enduring intense pain and terrified by the rakghouls in the vicinity, the soldier managed to survive for several days close to the wreckage of the downed escape pod.
Ultimately, the man was discovered by Revan and Carth Onasi, fellow Republic soldiers and survivors from the Endar Spire, who were in the midst of searching for Shan. Still struggling with the effects of the plague, the man requested assistance from the two, and Revan provided him with rakghoul serum, which he had just acquired while exploring the remains of a nearby Sith trooper. The man injected himself with the serum, resulting in an immediate cure from the disease. Revan questioned him about Shan, and the man shared what he knew regarding her pod's crash site. However, the soldier then thought he detected the rakghouls approaching—even though Revan heard nothing—and he felt the creatures were returning to finish him off. Overcome with fear, the soldier fled but encountered a group of rakghouls and was killed by them.
Personality and traits
The sight of his comrades being slaughtered by rakghouls had a profound impact on the Republic soldier. He harbored a deep fear of the creatures, which ultimately led to his demise when he attempted to escape them in a panicked state. The man possessed black hair, brown eyes and a fair complexion.
Behind the scenes
This Republic soldier made an appearance as a non-playable character within the 2003 video game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. The player, assuming the role of Revan, has the opportunity to encounter him in the Undercity, although this encounter does not advance the game's storyline and is not a requirement for completing the game. However, providing the rakghoul serum to the soldier rewards the player with light side points. Upon encountering the infected soldier, the player also has the option to instruct him to stay away or refuse to give him the serum until he reveals valuable information. In both of these scenarios, the soldier will transform into a rakghoul and attack Revan. The same outcome occurs if the player has not yet obtained the serum but promises to find something to help. If the player approaches the soldier after Bastila Shan has already been rescued and gives him the serum, the option to inquire about Shan's pod will not be available, and the soldier will immediately run away to his death after injecting himself with the serum.
