Unidentified Sarafur species

Once upon a time, on the Outer Rim Territories planet of Sarafur, there existed a sentient species. This world eventually became tide-locked. In the zone that separated the illuminated and dark sides of the planet, this species constructed many peculiar stone structures, creating a lively city.

Sometime around 26,000 BBY, a Killik Sith warrior sought sanctuary in this city, ultimately being entombed within a structure the native people used for bathing in sulfurous mineral waters. Eventually, long before the reign of the Galactic Empire, the Sarafur species vanished, and their buildings decayed into ruins.

The species' homeworld, Sarafur

Long ago, before the Galactic Empire rose to reign, a sentient species made their home on Sarafur, a planet situated in the Moddell sector of the Outer Rim Territories. At some point in its history, Sarafur became tidally locked. Some astronomers later proposed that this process happened so rapidly that the planet's sea—whose former seabed became the Krasho Salt Rifts region—evaporated in a matter of years or even just months.

This species erected many unusual structures, some towering several stories high. These were crafted from massive stone blocks, including basalt and sandstone, and they stood in the transitional zone between the illuminated and dark sides of Sarafur. At the edge of what would become the Krasho Salt Rifts, the inhabitants of Sarafur developed a thriving city. One of the buildings within this settlement was a building where the native population indulged in sulfurous mineral waters for bathing. The area also featured an arena, and according to later treasure hunters, the ruins of Sarafur contained the crypt of a deceased alien ruler.

History

A Killik Sith warrior (a Killik pictured) lived in and was entombed in a city of the Sarafur species.

The native species' homeworld, Sarafur, once functioned as a colony for the hive-minded, insectoid Killiks prior to their disappearance from the known galaxy around 30,000 BBY. Between that time and approximately 25,200 BBY, the Infinite Empire of the Rakata also held sway over Sarafur.

A Killik Sith warrior, fleeing persecution from the Core Worlds planet Alsakan well before Humans settled there between 27,000 BBY and 26,000 BBY, sought refuge on Sarafur, within its city. Upon the Sith's death, he was entombed in the building that housed the mineral water baths. At some point, long before the time of the Galactic Empire, the species inhabiting Sarafur became extinct, and the structures they had built eventually crumbled into ruins.

Behind the scenes

The Sarafur species made its debut in the ninth issue of Star Wars Gamer magazine, released on February 22, 2002. Within the pages of the magazine, the species was mentioned in both the source article, "Endor and the Moddell Sector," and the roleplaying adventure, "Race for the Tessent," both of which were designed for use with Wizards of the Coast's Star Wars Roleplaying Game.
