A live-action Star Wars motion picture is currently slated for release on December 17 of 2027. Disney made public its future slate of films on May 7, 2019, which featured a trio of as-yet-unnamed Star Wars productions, with one initially given a release date of December 18, 2026. This information was also covered by The Star Wars Show on May 15. However, owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, the film's release was pushed back to December 17, 2027 on July 23, 2020.
Following the commencement of the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike, Disney released an updated schedule of film releases, but this particular film was not included. During the Q3 Earnings Presentation for 2024 held on August 7, Disney reaffirmed its dedication to releasing The Mandalorian and Grogu and a second film during 2026, along with a third in 2027.
