A trilogy of Star Wars books, penned by Troy Denning, was planned for publication following his standalone novel Crucible. This novel was set in the same timeline period as the similarly canceled trilogy, Sword of the Jedi. Crucible was written with the intention of creating new narrative possibilities for the trilogy to explore. However, the Star Wars book line from Del Rey was rebooted after Lucasfilm Ltd. was acquired by The Walt Disney Company. At the time of its cancellation, Denning's trilogy, although possessing a plot, lacked a formal title.
The specifics of the trilogy's plot remain unknown, as does precise information regarding storylines planned for the period after Crucible. However, Denning shared some details about the future of certain characters in a 2014 interview. In that interview, Denning expressed the following regarding the direction of the storylines:
"The concept shifted from simply passing the torch to something much more deeply ingrained in my thinking. The plans that Del Rey had for the EU's future direction were truly remarkable. [...] One of the goals we aimed for with Apocalypse was to open up a multitude of diverse story possibilities for the Jedi and the wider galaxy. That was our intention in passing the torch." [6]
Concerning the future of Allana Solo, Denning stated the following:
"If the EU had continued as anticipated, I believe Allana would have become my most significant contribution. This is due to the groundwork that was established for her future development. She was, to a large extent, being positioned to become the Chosen One. This was a role that Anakin rejected, and no one else fully assumed. In my view, she was being prepared to become that Chosen One."
When questioned about the possibility of Ben Skywalker and Vestara Khai forming a romantic relationship, Denning offered these comments:
"I don't foresee that ever happening. I believe they are fundamentally opposed. They shared a period of time together, but ultimately, they are distinct individuals with differing perspectives on the Force, their roles in the galaxy, and the appropriate use of their abilities. Therefore, a happy marriage between them would be impossible."
Regarding his hopes for Jaina Solo Fel's future, he shared these thoughts:
"I would be very interested in seeing Jaina's story explored, focusing on her reconciliation with her identity, her sacrifices, and her journey to find happiness with Jag, whether through family or otherwise. I want to see their complete story told. Additionally, I would like to see Jaina progress to a position of equal stature with Luke. Not at his current level, where he is ready to pass on the torch, but at the level he was 20 or 25 years after Return of the Jedi. I wouldn't take her that far, but I would elevate her to the role of leader of the Jedi Order and so on."
