Verpine shatter rifle

The Verpine shatter rifle represents a specific model of shatter gun, designed and manufactured by the insectoid Verpine species. This rifle employed magnetic fields to propel miniature slugs at velocities far exceeding the capabilities of standard slugthrowers; its operation was characterized by a noticeable sonic boom as its metal-alloy projectiles surpassed the speed of sound. Despite the relatively small size of the rounds, the sheer velocity at impact delivered substantial kinetic energy to the target.

Shatter guns, offered in various forms including pistols, rifles, and sniper rifles, were highly desired by mercenaries, assassins, and special forces operatives. Nevertheless, beyond their exorbitant cost and scarcity outside the Roche Asteroid Field at 30,000 credits, shatter guns suffered from extreme fragility, making them susceptible to malfunction from even minor impacts or rough handling.
