Vianna D'Pow

Vianna D'Pow, hailing from the planet of Zeltros, was a female Zeltron with albino. Her unique ash-white skin caused her to be ostracized by her fellow Zeltrons. Over time, D'Pow developed a deep-seated self-hatred, and to channel her intense anger, she chose to become a bounty hunter. She frequently used her pheromones to gain an edge in her profession, leading to multiple encounters with Mace Windu, a well-known member of the Jedi Council, sometime prior to the Clone Wars, a major conflict that began in 22 BBY. One such event involved D'Pow's infiltration of the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, where she attempted to kidnap a Sullustan youngling. Windu intervened, assuming D'Pow was employed by a criminal syndicate. However, D'Pow had been hired by the child's parents, who were against their child leaving them to be trained in the ways of the Jedi. Ultimately, Windu relented, returning the child to its family, and D'Pow was allowed to go free.

During the Clone Wars, Count Dooku, a Sith Lord, enlisted D'Pow to travel to Kamino. The cloning facilities on Kamino were providing the Galactic Republic, Dooku's adversary, with a clone army. D'Pow's task was to steal the genetic material utilized in the creation of the clones. News of this mission reached the Jedi, who dispatched Obi-Wan Kenobi, a Jedi Master, to confront D'Pow. After a fierce confrontation throughout Tipoca City and the surrounding waters, Kenobi successfully secured the genetic material. D'Pow managed to escape, and Kenobi returned the material. Before departing Kamino, Kenobi learned that D'Pow had also ordered a clone of herself. He allowed the order to proceed, believing that D'Pow should not be alone in the universe.

Biography

An unwanted pariah

Vianna D'Pow was the target of of her peers, who harassed her because of her pale skin.

Vianna D'Pow was a female Zeltron who was born on Zeltros, her homeworld. Zeltros is a planet situated in the Inner Rim region of the galaxy. Zeltrons are easily identified by their vibrant red skin, a characteristic that D'Pow lacked. As an albino, her skin was ash-white, making her a target for ridicule from her peers due to her differences. Once, three Zeltron teenagers chased a teenage D'Pow through run-down city alleyways, where they relentlessly mocked and assaulted her. She eventually managed to break free and escape into a warehouse, waiting for her tormentors to leave. Alone, she stared at her reflection in an old mirror before shattering it in a burst of anger. Unable to find love or be loved, D'Pow sought an outlet for her rage. Ultimately, she decided to become a bounty hunter, utilizing her athleticism, agility, and natural pheromones to her advantage.

Her main targets became other bounty hunters, though during her career, D'Pow also developed a disdain for the Galactic Republic's Jedi Council, viewing their code of honor and moral beliefs as hypocritical. The Zeltron encountered council member and Jedi Master Mace Windu on several occasions, much to his displeasure. However, using his knowledge of D'Pow, Windu created a report on the bounty hunter, making it available to all Jedi in case they encountered her. Obi-Wan Kenobi was one Jedi who reviewed the report, learning about D'Pow's past and the fact that she was the only albino Zeltron in existence.

Mission to the Jedi Temple

D'Pow secures the Sullustan infant

During the later decades of the Republic's existence, a Sullustan family had a child who exhibited Force sensitivity. The Jedi discovered the child and brought them to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, where they would begin training to become a Jedi. However, the parents had a change of heart and decided they didn't want to lose their child. They contacted D'Pow, who accepted the task of retrieving the child. D'Pow infiltrated the temple undetected and made her way to the nursery, where the child was sleeping alongside other infants. After disabling the medical droid on duty, D'Pow secured the Sullustan in a sling. As she tried to leave, she encountered Windu, who was reading a datapad. Before the Jedi could react, D'Pow stunned him with a taser. Windu, trying to recover, used the Force to push D'Pow backwards. Recognizing her, Windu remarked that kidnapping children was unusual for D'Pow.

D'Pow threatened to kill the infant, but Windu called her bluff. A firefight ensued, with D'Pow using her blaster pistol to attack the Jedi. Windu deflected her shots with his lightsaber, inadvertently hitting the nursery and waking the infants. D'Pow, thinking Windu was distracted, fired again, but the Jedi dodged and knocked her to the floor. D'Pow tried to use her pheromones to influence Windu, but failed. Windu questioned her about her employers, believing she worked for the Black Sun or a Hutt cartel, as Jedi younglings were valuable on the black market. To Windu's surprise, D'Pow revealed that the baby's family had hired her. Windu was confused, believing it was an honor for a child to become a Jedi. D'Pow criticized the Jedi's beliefs and lack of empathy, stating they were too obsessed with honor and the Jedi Code to see anything else. The Zeltron believed the Jedi knew little about family love.

While Windu was distracted, D'Pow discreetly reached for her fallen blaster, but grabbed Windu's dropped datapad instead. Reading the datapad, she saw a message seemingly from Windu's parents, who were actually deceased. Unaware of this, D'Pow conceded, believing Windu might understand love after all. D'Pow returned the child to Windu, who returned the infant to its grateful parents.

One of a kind

Kenobi's and D'Pow's fight on Kamino brought them to conflict under the water's surface.

In 22 BBY, the Clone Wars began on Geonosis. The Galactic Republic and its clone army fought against the Confederacy of Independent Systems. During the war, Count Dooku, a Sith Lord, hired D'Pow to travel to Kamino, a water-covered world with Republic cloning facilities. Her mission was to steal the genetic material of Jango Fett, the source of the clone army. Arriving at Tipoca City, D'Pow met Taun We, a Kaminoan. Realizing the facility could end her loneliness, she ordered a clone of herself. D'Pow retrieved Fett's genetic material without We's knowledge. However, Obi-Wan Kenobi arrived with clone troopers, having learned of the Separatist plot, though unaware D'Pow was involved.

After speaking with We, Mace Windu contacted Kenobi via holographic comlink, informing him that D'Pow was the Confederate bounty hunter. As Kenobi finished the transmission, D'Pow ran past, showing the canister with the genetic material. Kenobi and the clone troopers chased her, ignoring We's protests. After a brief shootout, D'Pow killed the clone troopers and fled. Outside, she tried to escape on a passing aiwha, but Kenobi followed. The Jedi destroyed her blaster pistol, forcing her to use her shock whip. They exchanged taunts and insults; D'Pow criticized the Jedi's beliefs, while Kenobi called out her miserable life. Eventually, the aiwha flew into the ocean, where D'Pow and Kenobi engaged in unarmed underwater combat. Kenobi retrieved the genetic material unnoticed.

D'Pow called a speeder to their location and used a retractable rope to pull herself out of the water. Kenobi used the Force to jump onto a nearby structure and revealed her mission had failed. D'Pow left, claiming only Dooku had failed. When Kenobi returned to Tipoca City, We told him about D'Pow's clone order, which We considered canceling. After consideration, Kenobi allowed the order to proceed, believing no one should be alone.

Personality and traits

Vianna reflects on herself

While Zeltrons are known for their fun-loving nature and ability to love, Vianna D'Pow lacked these traits due to being tormented for her abnormal skin color. D'Pow became self-loathing and turned her inability to love into strength. Despite this, D'Pow empathized with infants adopted by the Jedi Order, and during her mission to Coruscant, she showed regret for not returning all infants to their homes. She despised the Jedi and often insulted them about their limited understanding beyond their code. This led to similar remarks about D'Pow's lifestyle, such as Obi-Wan Kenobi believing she only escaped one terrible life for another. D'Pow disliked Jedi psychoanalysis. She felt alone as the only albino of her species, leading her to order a clone of herself to share the galaxy with.

D'Pow's defining characteristic was her pale white skin, unlike other Zeltrons' crimson skin. Zeltrons usually have blue hair, another trait D'Pow lacked. Her hair was slick black, kept in a ponytail when younger, and up after becoming a bounty hunter. D'Pow had purple eyes. She was athletic and used her agility to outmaneuver Kenobi and his clone troopers on Kamino.

Skills and abilities

Vianna D'Pow maintained peak physical condition, like most Zeltrons. Strong and agile, she used her athleticism to gain an advantage against those less flexible, such as clone troopers in weighted armor. She was lightweight and could easily lift herself to bypass obstacles. She had decent accuracy with a blaster pistol, though her shots were mostly blocked by Jedi lightsabers. She carried a lightwhip on Kamino and held her ground against Kenobi, though she was disarmed after kicking him into the ocean. Like all Zeltrons, D'Pow could excrete pheromones to influence others, but Mace Windu resisted.

Equipment

D'Pow utilized a shock whip and a blaster pistol during her mission to Kamino

Vianna D'Pow used various weapons throughout her career. Her primary weapon was a small black blaster pistol used on Coruscant and Kamino, though she never hit any targets with it. The pistol was destroyed on Kamino. D'Pow also carried a yellow shock whip on Kamino, using it against Obi-Wan Kenobi. She wrapped the whip around Kenobi's lightsaber, disabling it. The fight was interrupted when the aiwha flew into the ocean, where she lost the whip. D'Pow also carried a taser, which she used on Coruscant to disable a droid and Mace Windu. Additionally, D'Pow owned a silver speeder that she controlled remotely, equipped with a retractable rope used to escape Kamino's oceans. When operating, D'Pow wore a black jumpsuit that covered her entire body, except for her shoulders.

Behind the scenes

Vianna D'Pow was created for the story "Children of the Force," in Star Wars Tales 13, released on September 25, 2002 as part of the Star Wars Tales series. The character and story were created by Jason Hall, and Children of the Force was illustrated by Lucas Marangon. Though called a Zeltron, her appearance differed from previous Zeltrons, with no explanation given. She was first identified as an albino Zeltron in the comic One of a Kind, also written by Hall. One of a Kind was pencilled by Ethan Beavers and colored by Ronda Pattison, and was released on June 20, 2007. The story developed D'Pow's backstory, revealing her life on Zeltros and her status as the only albino Zeltron. One of a Kind was featured in Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures Volume 8. D'Pow later received an entry in The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia in 2008.
