Plot summary

During the time of the Battle of Tatooine, Luke Skywalker, Ben Kenobi, along with the droids R2-D2 and C-3PO, are traveling through the Jundland Wastes in Luke's landspeeder, where the young Skywalker pledges to be a diligent student of Kenobi's teachings. Suddenly, they hear a scream.

Despite Skywalker's protest about the delay, the Jedi Master instructs them to investigate the source of the scream. Kenobi uses this as an opportunity to teach Skywalker his first lesson, explaining that Jedi are compelled to assist those in need. They observe a sandcrawler being attacked by Tusken Raiders, and Skywalker notices Amni Ponnar concealing himself behind a speeder.

Kenobi leaps from their landspeeder, activating his lightsaber as he lands amidst the Tuskens. Simultaneously, Skywalker proceeds to rescue Ponnar.

R2-D2 sprays oil onto a Tusken Raider. As the oil spreads, Kenobi ignites it, causing the fire to spread to the nearby wrecked speeder. Kenobi then rejoins Skywalker and orders their immediate departure.

They successfully reach the Ponnar homestead, where Ponnar is reunited with his father and recounts the events of the encounter. Kenobi elucidates the reason for the conflict between the two groups, which revolves around missing hubba gourds. He then enters the homestead to clean off the dust.

Inside, he conducts an investigation and discovers a reflecting crystal that reveals the location of the hidden gourds. Ponnar attempts to ambush him, but Kenobi manages to reason with him.

As Kenobi persists in his accusations, Ponnar draws his blaster, only for Skywalker to bisect it with his own lightsaber. Amni subsequently informs them that they are under attack.

However, Kenobi employs The Force to return the gourds. Kenobi, Skywalker, and the droids then resume their journey, leaving Ponnar to face the wrath of his family.
