A waveskimmer was a type of surface ship designed for use on aquatic environments. The Maritime Division of the Galactic Empire's Army employed this particular kind of vessel.
This surface ship utilized repulsorlift technology. The waveskimmer's design featured a cockpit with windowed sections, supported by two robust legs that angled downwards on each side. At the end of each leg was a pontoon, enabling the vehicle to stay afloat on the water and move across its surface when propelled. In terms of weaponry, it was equipped with two blaster cannons positioned at the front.
The Maritime Division, a specialized branch of the Galactic Empire's Army, utilized waveskimmers. Their purpose was to maintain order within the waterways of various planets.
During a mission on Sesid that formed part of Operation Yellow Moon, Leia Organa's team found themselves pursued by a number of waveskimmers.

The novel Moving Target: A Princess Leia Adventure, published in 2015 and penned by Jason Fry and Cecil Castellucci, marked the canonical debut of waveskimmers. Their first visual representation appeared in Leia and the Great Island Escape, a Disney–Lucasfilm Press adaptation of Moving Target targeted at younger audiences. This adaptation borrowed the design of the AQ-5 Waveskimmer from the Legends comic series Star Wars: Dark Empire.
However, this visual depiction clashes with the textual descriptions. Leia mentions stormtroopers being on waveskimmers, not in them. Further along, there's a reference to "black shape of a riderless waveskimmer skittered over the waves."
Actually, Jason Fry envisioned it as a nod to a single-person vehicle featured in Battle for the Golden Sun, a Star Wars Legends adventure book used with West End Games' Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game.
