The Winter Palace served as the residence for Jiliac Desilijic Tiron and the Desilijic clan in the time leading up to the Battle of Yavin. This palace was situated on a secluded island on Nal Hutta, close to the planet's equator. Despite the island's hot and humid climate, teeming with vegetation, numerous Hutts regarded it as aesthetically pleasing. Jiliac's palace was opulent; his primary audience chamber was enormous, featuring a costly carpet that adorned the central aisle leading to his platform, and floors crafted from polished, radiant stone. The antechamber connecting to the throne room was characterized by its lofty, skylit ceilings and light-hued stone construction. Exquisite tapestries, rumored to have been crafted by Jiliac's imprisoned victims awaiting execution, adorned the towering walls.
During the conflict for dominance over the Ylesian spice operations in 10 BBY, Han Solo conveyed a communication from Zavval to Jiliac's Winter Palace. Subsequently, Durga Besadii Tai and Guri made their way to the Winter Palace to challenge Jiliac and appeal to the Old Law.
The real-world inspiration for the in-universe Winter Palace is an actual palace located in Saint Petersburg, Russia.
