The Ylesian Dream began its existence as a droid-operated cargo vessel owned by the Besadii Hutt family, primarily used for the transportation of spice. A youthful Han Solo secretly boarded the freighter when it traveled to Trader's Luck, intending to reach Ylesia. Due to its design as a droid freighter, the ship lacked a life support system, compelling Solo to wear a spacesuit throughout the lengthy and frigid voyage. Upon finally arriving at Ylesia, Solo was forced to seize control of the vessel to navigate the planet's chaotic atmosphere. Solo successfully landed the ship with only minor damage, which greatly impressed the t'landa Til, leading them to eagerly employ him as their pilot.
The Ylesian Dream was soon modified to accommodate living pilots, specifically Han Solo (known to them as Vykk Draygo) and his Togorian "protector", Muuurgh. Following a near-disaster involving pirates, which necessitated an emergency landing on Alderaan for repairs, the Dream received enhanced weaponry and improved shields. The reason for Solo's hiring was because droid freighters were easy targets for pirates.
Han Solo made his escape from Ylesia with his romantic interest, Bria Tharen, as well as Muuurgh and Mrrov, aboard Teroenza's personal yacht, the Talisman, abandoning the Ylesian Dream. As the Talisman was attacked by the slaver corvette Helot's Shackle, backup pilot Jalus Nebl intervened to assist Solo.
Years later, Nebl enlisted in the Rebel Alliance, bringing the Ylesian Dream with him. The ship was then renamed the Dream of Freedom. During the Battle of Ylesia, the Dream of Freedom was destroyed by a turbolaser cannon positioned on the ground.
