Zephata'ru'tor, a Padawan of the Duinuogwuin species, served as an apprentice to Jedi Master B'dard Tone as the Galactic Republic neared its end. During the Clone Wars, this Duinuogwuin and Tone fought for the Republic against the Confederacy of Independent Systems; however, in 21.6 BBY, Zephata'ru'tor met his end on the planet Nadiem during a battle with the [cyborg](/article/cyborg/legends] General Grievous. His death came at the hands of Grievous.

Biography

Zephata'ru'tor, a Force-sensitive member of the Duinuogwuin species – flying dragons known for reaching lengths of 100 meters, breathing fire, and surviving in the vacuum of space – was brought into the Jedi Order. In the years preceding the Clone Wars between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems, he became a Padawan under the tutelage of Coway Jedi Master B'dard Tone.

In 21.6 BBY, which was five months following the beginning of the Clone Wars on Geonosis, the Master and Padawan participated in a battle that took place on Nadiem. After the Republic emerged victorious, General Grievous, the cyborg commander leading the Separatist Droid Army, attempted to escape the battlefield. Tone tried to prevent the infamous [Jedi](/article/jedi-legends]-killer from fleeing, but Grievous severely injured him. Zephata'ru'tor also intervened to stop the general's escape in his Belbullab-22 starfighter, but Grievous killed the Duinuogwuin in space above Nadiem.

Behind the scenes

The first mention of Zephata'ru'tor occurred in General Grievous 1, a comic by Chuck Dixon released on March 16, 2005, where he was identified solely as Tone's Padawan. In Unknown Soldier: The Story of General Grievous, an article by Abel G. Peña featured in Star Wars Insider 86 in 2006, the Padawan received the name Zephata'ru'tor. This name originated from a list of potential Duinuogwuin names in Geonosis and the Outer Rim Worlds. A character entry for Zephata'ru'tor was included in The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia in 2008.
