590 BBY

590 BBY, which is to say, 590 years prior to the Battle of Yavin, occurred during the Great Peace of the Republic, a significant time period. This era, which had its genesis over four centuries before, was distinguished by extensive colonization of the Outer Rim Territories, regions previously unexplored, and the opening up of the Deep Core to exploration. It was around this time that Jedi Master Bodo Baas took on the task of updating the Tedryn Holocron, a Jedi teaching device designed for instruction.

Proem

The New Sith Wars, a period defined by a millennium of conflict between the Jedi and Sith, concluded in 1000 BBY. The Galactic Republic barely survived this era. Subsequently, Supreme Chancellor Tarsus Valorum proclaimed the Ruusan Reformation, which led to a restructuring of the Galactic Senate and the formal establishment of the Jedi Order as an official part of the Judicial Department.

Bodo Baas, a Jedi who lived and served in the Adega system around 600 BBY, was part of a group dedicated to preserving Jedi history and teachings for future generations. After his promotion to Jedi Master, Baas inherited the Tedryn Holocron, a holocron that functioned as a Jedi teaching tool.

The galaxy in 590 BBY

590 BBY is also equivalent to 3,063 ATC (After the Treaty of Coruscant), a peace treaty that marked the end of the Great Galactic War in 3653 BBY. Additionally, 590 BBY is equivalent to 410 after the Ruusan Reformation, and 555 BrS (Before the Great ReSynchronization), a year-notation system that was established in 35 BBY. By the time 590 BBY arrived, the Great Peace of the Republic, a time period that directly followed the Ruusan Reformation, had been ongoing for over four centuries. The Republic continued to expand into the Deep Core and the previously uncharted Wild Space regions, which would eventually become the Outer Rim Territories.

Around 590 BBY, Bodo Baas completed his records and subsequently updated and reorganized the Tedryn Holocron, which had previously been in the possession of his ancestor, Vodo-Siosk Baas. Bodo Baas augmented the holocron by adding the prophecy penned by his own Master four hundred years prior.

Impact

The Great Peace of the Republic endured for almost six additional centuries, as the Republic's expansion continued. Economic forces started to exert influence on the Republic, with corporations acquiring star systems in the Tingel Arm and establishing the Corporate Sector.

Luke Skywalker's New Jedi Order discovered the Tedryn Holocron in 10 ABY. Skywalker, along with his sister Leia Organa Solo, fulfilled the prophecy made by Baas's Master when they defeated Palpatine, the Dark Side Lord and ruler of the first Galactic Empire.

Notable events

  • Bodo Baas integrated his records, including the prophecy of his Master, into the Tedryn Holocron around this time (approximate). [7] [14]

Behind the scenes

Tom Veitch's Dark Empire 5 comic only briefly mentions Bodo Baas and his group of Jedi, who gathered and documented Jedi knowledge six centuries before 10 ABY (or 590 BBY), the setting of the story.
