The battle was part of the Sy Myrthian Insurrection, an Imperial attempt to drive the remnants of the Condeferate military out of the area around the planet Sy Myrth and region known as the Kreetan Narrows after the holdouts' defeat at the hands of the Galactic Republic during the Clone Wars. The Imperial victory at Metalorn was followed by another during a siege of Sy Myrth.
