The howler lizard was an arboreal lizard species inhabiting the jungles surrounding the Massassi Site on the moon Yavin 4 during 1 BBY. The calls of this reptile were known to travel great distances.
Within established Star Wars canon, howler lizards received a mention in the 2023 publication Star Wars: Dawn of Rebellion: The Visual Guide, authored by both Pablo Hidalgo and [Emily Shkoukani].
Concerning the Star Wars Legends storyline, howlers were initially conceived for the 2002 video game Star Wars: Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast by Raven Software and are present in the game's data; despite this, they were omitted from the game's final release. They subsequently made their debut in Raven Software's 2003 follow-up title, Star Wars: Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy.
