Krel sharks were a type of shark that lived on the planet Eiram. According to legend, the deity Krel transformed into the sharks. Around 397 BBY, when he was young, the future heir to Eiram, Phan-tu Zenn, was stuck in the oceans of Eiram and was surrounded by krel sharks, none of which harmed him.
Krel sharks were a type of blueish-gray shark that were from the oceans of the planet Eiram. Each year, people were sometimes lost to the krel sharks of Eiram's oceans. They had tusks under their lower mandibles, which, according to legend, were due to the Eirami deity Krel having transformed into the sharks as ages passed.
Around 397 BBY, Phan-tu Zenn, a boy native to Eiram, was dragged out to sea by a monsoon, he was surrounded by krel sharks, who did not harm him while he was there. Zenn eventually survived the ordeal and was adopted into Eiram's royal family.
In 382 BBY, when Xiri A'lbaran, heir to the planet E'ronoh's throne, crashed in an ocean on Eiram, Zenn swam to try and save her, cutting through the water like a krel shark. Zenn later told the short version of the sharks' origin and described his encounter with them to the human Axel Greylark, son of Supreme Chancellor Kyong Greylark; A'lbaran, with whom he was now betrothed; and Jedi Knight Gella Nattai. The former telling was prompted when Zenn metaphorically assured A'lbaran that wild krel sharks would have to eat him alive for him to take back his promise to marry her.
Later that year, during a peace celebration between the previously warring Eiram and the planet E'ronoh, a large Eirami transport colored similarly to a krel shark flew alongside an E'roni cruiser.
Krel sharks were first mentioned in the 2022 novel Convergence, written by Zoraida Córdova as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's Phase II.
