D'ian orchid vine

D'ian orchid vines were a species of plant, specifically a non-sentient one, that originated on the planet Sen III within its D'ian province. These plants, like many others from Sen III, were highly valued for their beautiful fragrance and visual appearance. The D'ian orchid vine was characterized by a prominent central pink flower featuring orange projections, all surrounded by leaves of pink and yellow hues.

These orchids were exported from their native planet and became widespread throughout the Corporate Sector, where Sen III was located. Rossum Droidworks, a company operating within this sector, gifted an orchid vine to Colonel Milosh Muhrlein, the Imperial commandant in charge of Imperial Research Station 61 on Wayland. Muhrlein, who was involved in selling experimental droids and technology from his research station on the black market to Rossum Droidworks, kept the plant on his desk. This continued until Jahan Cross of the Imperial Security Bureau identified the plant around 3 BBY. Cross, who was investigating Muhrlein's illicit black market activities, later knocked the plant to the floor during a confrontation with the commandant.

Behind the scenes

The initial mention of orchid vines occurred in Han Solo's Revenge, a novel authored by Brian Daley in 1979. Further details and specifications were provided in A Guide to the Star Wars Universe, a sourcebook penned by Raymond L. Velasco and published in 1994. Additional information appeared in The Essential Atlas, another sourcebook co-written by Daniel Wallace and Jason Fry, which was released in 2009. Subsequently, in 2011, the plant made an appearance in Agent of the Empire – Iron Eclipse 1, a comic book created by John Ostrander with illustrations by Stéphane Roux. Notably, the comic book contains a misspelling, referring to it as an "orchard vine."
